  • Patent number: 11143021
Abstract: A resonant receiver for electromagnetic telemetry of wellbore-related data can be used to improve signal reception for transmitting or receiving low-amplitude downhole signals that include noise. A system can comprise a surface assembly with an antenna for wirelessly communicating signals with equipment positioned downhole in a wellbore. The surface assembly can comprise an amplifier and a tank circuit operable to resonate at a resonant frequency to pass a received signal at the resonant frequency to the amplifier while also shunting noise outside of the resonant frequency to ground. In some embodiments, a downhole transceiver in wireless communication with the surface assembly can comprise a similar tank circuit and amplifier.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 9, 2018
Date of Patent: October 12, 2021
    Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.
Inventors: Patrick William Torbett, David Lyle, John Kenneth Snyder

  • Patent number: 9934681
Abstract: An electromagnetic (EM) signal booster, in some embodiments, comprises a bandpass filter comprising a high pass filter and a low pass filter coupled to the high pass filter, and further comprising a low cutoff frequency and a high cutoff frequency, both cutoff frequencies being adjustable; a first amplifier coupled to the high pass filter; and a second amplifier coupled to the first amplifier, wherein the high cutoff frequency is adjusted to within a first threshold value above a minimum high cutoff frequency and the low cutoff frequency is adjusted to within a second threshold value below a maximum low cutoff frequency.
