Patent number: 11204031Abstract: A crescent internal gear pump includes a front cover, an end cover, a ring gear and a pinion gear disposed within a gear housing in an eccentric, intermeshing relationship. The housing is disposed intermediate the front cover and the end cover. A crescent is disposed radially intermediate the ring gear and the pinion gear. The crescent partially extends into a correspondingly shaped slot in the end cover. The gear housing, the ring gear, and the pinion gear can have substantially the same thickness. A shim can be disposed intermediate the end cover and the gear housing for establishing a desired clearance therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2019Date of Patent: December 21, 2021Assignee: CIRCOR PUMPS NORTH AMERICA, LLCInventors: Patrick Wilson Duncan, Colette Doll Greene, Philip Taylor Alexander

Patent number: 10544788Abstract: A pump includes a housing, a drive shaft, a centrifugal pump portion having an impeller, and a gear pump portion having first and second gears. The impeller and one of the first and second gears are mounted to the drive shaft to drive the centrifugal pump portion and the gear pump portion at the same rotational speed. The gear pump can be a crescent internal gear (CIG) pump. The drive shaft can be rotated by a magnetic drive. The drive shaft can include a longitudinal bore in fluid communication with a cavity in the magnetic drive and with a discharge of the centrifugal pump portion to circulate working fluid through the magnetic drive to cool the drive. An impeller can be coupled to an inlet of the centrifugal pump portion.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 2015Date of Patent: January 28, 2020Assignee: CIRCOR PUMPS NORTH AMERICA, LLCInventors: Patrick Wilson Duncan, Philip Taylor Alexander, Charles Hinckley

Patent number: 9163628Abstract: A self-adjusting gear pump is disclosed. The pump may be a crescent internal gear pump, a gerotor pump, or an external gear pump. The pump includes a pump housing, gear housing, first and second gears, a side plate housing with a side plate, a shim and an end plate. The side plate moves between a first position contacting the first and second gears and gear housing, and a second position contacting the end plate. The side plate is spring biased toward the first position. A method is disclosed for match grinding the crescent plate (if used), gear housing and gears as a unit to provide a uniform surface. The side plate housing and side plate are similarly match ground. An assembly method is disclosed which allows the crescent plate to be moved with respect to the gear housing so that clearances between the crescent and the gear teeth are eliminated.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 2013Date of Patent: October 20, 2015Assignee: IMO Industries, Inc.Inventors: Patrick Wilson Duncan, Colette Doll Greene, Philip Taylor Alexander

Patent number: 8398310Abstract: A self aligning bearing and seal assembly including a bearing housing operable to mount to a surface, a bearing unit seated within the bearing housing and having an outer race, an inner race, and at least one ball intermediate the outer and inner race. The self aligning bearing and seal assembly also includes a pivot assembly having a shaft sleeve operable for receiving and maintaining a rotatable shaft and being disposed in the bearing housing and in operational contact with the inner race of the bearing unit. The pivot assembly allows for a degree of angular misalignment between the surface and the shaft greater than three degrees.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 2008Date of Patent: March 19, 2013Assignee: Total Lubrication Management CompanyInventors: Charles Wayne Ehlert, Patrick Wilson Duncan

Publication number: 20030089403Abstract: A backflow prevention apparatus has a valve body with a longitudinal axis that defines a flow path therethrough, and two end segments located at opposite ends of the valve body. Two check valve assemblies reside in series within the valve body. The valve body and end segments are connected to a pivot member that carries the valve body and allows it to swing in and out of axial alignment with the end segments. The check valve assemblies can be accessed and removed from the valve body when the valve body is pivotally moved out of axial alignment with the end segments.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 12, 2001Publication date: May 15, 2003Inventors: Patrick Wilson Duncan, John Frederick Higdon
