    Abstract: An armchair (10) having a seat (16) tiltable relative to a fixed frame (12,14,18) of the chair to provide aid to an occupant in rising from the chair, the seat being tiltable from a lowered position to a raised position by a lever mechanism (24) provided beneath the seat, characterized in that the lever mechanism is operatively connected to at least one pivotal arm assembly (20,22) of the chair and is actuated by downward movement of that arm by force exerted thereon by the occupant in rising from the chair.
