  • Publication number: 20020065582
Abstract: A fuel measuring system includes a package adapted for mounting to a fuel storage vessel. The package includes an electro-statically shielded enclosure. A processor element is disposed in the enclosure and is adapted for coupling to a fuel sensor disposed in the storage vessel. A communication interface is provided for coupling data through the enclosure between the processor and a processor external to the package through a dielectric transmission media passing through the enclosure. A power supply for the processor element disposed in the enclosure, such power supply being adapted to generate power for the processing element in response to input energy. An energy interface is provided for coupling the input energy from a source external to the enclosure through dielectric transmission media passing through the enclosure.

  • Patent number: 6299730
Abstract: A method and system for monitoring web defects along a moving web of paper involves determining a dimension of a web defect as the paper web moves along an established paper path in a machine direction. A distance from a side edge of the paper web to a location of the web defect is also determined as the paper web moves along the established paper path. A value indicative of a likelihood of paper web failure at the web defect is then established based at least in part upon both the determined dimension and the determined distance. A determination of whether to stop the moving paper web for repair of the web defect can then be made based at least in part upon the determined failure likelihood indicative value. An alternative technique involves establishing a plurality of paper web width regions. A dimension of a web defect is determined as the paper web moves along an established paper path in a machine direction. The web defect is categorized as falling into one of the established paper web width regions.

  • Patent number: 4584930
Abstract: A ventilation system for a glove box (1) comprising first (4,5) and second (10,14) extract flow lines connected in parallel between a common outlet (15) from the box and a suction pump (6). Each extract line includes a vortex amplifier (3,9) and a filter (11,12). The vortex amplifiers are chosen such that under normal operating conditions the required depression within the box is maintained by flow along the first of the extract lines and a reverse flow from the vortex amplifier in the second extract line passes through the filter in that line and exits through the first extract line without passing into the glove box. The second extract line functions as an emergency extract capability in the event of a breach of the glove box and the reverse flow keeps the filter in the line in a clean and usable condition.

  • Patent number: 4540488
Abstract: The lower end of an ion exchange column is provided with a rotatable valve member which, in a first position, supports resin material in the column and, in a second position, allows the resin material to drop out of the column. The valve member can include a sintered body which in the first position supports the resin material and permits drainage of reagents introduced into the column. On rotating the valve member into its second position the sintered body can fall out of the valve member to permit the resin material to fall out of the column through the valve member. A replacement sintered body can be dropped down the column on to the valve member and the column can be refilled with resin material for further use.
