  • Patent number: 8671514
Abstract: A cleaner head for a cleaning appliance includes a rotatable agitator assembly, an agitator chamber housing the agitator assembly, and a sole plate defining a downwardly-directed opening through which debris energized by the agitator assembly enters the agitator chamber. A set of support members is located on a leading and trailing section of the sole plate, the support members extending downwardly beyond the sole plate to support the sole plate above a relatively hard floor surface. The lowermost extremities of the sets of support members are located in a first plane, and the edges of the opening are located in a second plane which is inclined upwardly relative to the first plane. The agitator assembly includes agitating members which extend outwardly from the opening beyond the second plane but within the first plane.

  • Patent number: 8573641
Abstract: An airbag has a fabric enclosure, a vent in the fabric enclosure, and a flow control device made up of a flexible membrane fastened around part of a periphery thereof to the fabric enclosure adjacent to the vent. The membrane defines a flow passage having a free end through which inflation gas is vented to atmosphere and has a tongue extending away from the free end. The tongue has a pre-deployment position in which it overlies an inner surface of the fabric enclosure and a distal end of the tongue extends past an end of the vent closest to the free end. A first distance from the distal end of the tongue to a closest end of the vent may be shorter than a second distance from the distal end of the tongue to a closest end of fastening between the periphery of the membrane and the fabric enclosure.

  • Patent number: 8430425
Abstract: An airbag assembly for a motor vehicle has an airbag 10 that is inflated by an inflator 12 when the airbag 10 is deployed in accordance with a control signal from an electronic controller 6. A portion of the airbag 10 in a region where an expected head impact with the airbag 10 will occur is formed by a soft panel portion 25 which provides a softer or more compliant structure that can expand or stretch to an increased surface area condition to thereby reduce the risk of injury to an occupant. The soft panel portion 25 is constructed so as to provide increased give or stretch relative to the other parts of the fabric bag 9 when a head of an occupant impacts against it.

  • Patent number: 8424157
Abstract: A tool for a surface treating appliance includes a main body connected to a conduit. The main body includes a first suction channel and a second suction channel in fluid communication with the first suction channel and located between the first suction channel and an outlet from the main body. In use, a relatively low vacuum is generated in the first suction channel which draws a first dirt-bearing fluid flow into the main body, and a relatively high vacuum is generated in the second suction channel, which draws a second dirt-bearing fluid flow into the main body and receives the first dirt-bearing fluid flow from the first suction channel. To maintain the pressure differences between the suction channels, the main body includes flexible surface engaging members located about the suction channels, and between the first suction channel and the second suction channel.

  • Patent number: 8403280
Abstract: A microphone is mounted to apparatus in order to receive sound from a sound source. The apparatus has a microphone clamp to secure different microphones to a variety of musical instruments and other sound sources and may be used to directly mount a microphone to a variety of clamping surfaces. The mounting apparatus incorporates a dual jaw design to allow for easy, fast, and secure mounting to the clamping surface. The apparatus supports a quick release mechanism for easy and fast engagement and disengagement of the dual jaws, consequently reducing time needed to securely clamp and remove the mounting apparatus with the clamping surface. The release mechanism may include a dowel release having a hole through which the jaw stud is situated. The hole has two curved surfaces so that one of jaws may be moved without turning the jaw stud when the dowel release is depressed.
