  • Patent number: 4571268
Abstract: The invention relates to a single package zinc-filled coating particularly useful as applied to metal substrates. The zinc-rich coatings comprise mixtures of partially hydrolyzed ethyl silicate with large amounts of metal particles such as zinc dust in an organic solvent with an alkali metal nitrate as the catalyst. The coating compositions are substantially stable in the absence of moisture and therefore having a long shelf life and can be applied by conventional methods to obtain completely cured films under ambient conditions.
