  • Patent number: 8180872
Abstract: System and method for providing a common data model for SAN discovery and/or SAN monitoring information collected from heterogeneous SAN components. In one embodiment, a SAN management server may execute on a host computer and may translate data in one or more vendor-specific languages obtained from a heterogeneous vendor population into canonical data in a uniform language. In one embodiment, the SAN management server may execute a set of rules to convert heterogeneous SAN data obtained from heterogeneous interfaces into canonical data conforming to the common data model. In one embodiment, the canonical data may be stored in a persistent store, which may be queried for information that may be provided to the requestor in the canonical form of the common data model.

  • Patent number: 7685261
Abstract: An extensible architecture for centralized discovery and management of heterogeneous Storage Area Network (SAN) components. A SAN management server may be provided for communicating with the heterogeneous SAN components to perform centralized discovery and management of the SAN. The server may manage a data repository for storing data objects representing the components of the SAN. The SAN management server may include one or more explorers for communicating with SAN components to perform one or more discovery or management operations. Each explorer may be added to the system as a separate module. The SAN management server may receive SAN management commands and select and sequence one or more of the explorers to perform one or more SAN component discovery or management operations. The SAN management server may convert data obtained from the heterogeneous SAN components into a common data model.

  • Patent number: 7403987
Abstract: System and method for performing transactional management tasks on a Storage Area Network (SAN). A user may initiate a SAN management task. A transaction may be generated that includes one or more operations to perform the SAN management task. In one embodiment, stored SAN information may be accessed to determine the operations to be performed. The one or more operations may be executed to perform the transaction. The operations may be directed at the stored SAN information and/or at one or more objects of the SAN. Results of the operations may be examined to determine if the transaction completed successfully. The initiator of the SAN management task may be notified of the status of the transaction. If the transaction did not completed successfully, the stored SAN information and/or SAN objects may be restored to a state prior to the transaction.

  • Publication number: 20040267897
Abstract: A distributed system providing scalable methodology for real-time control of server pools and data centers is described. In one embodiment, a method is described for regulating resource usage by a plurality of programs running on a plurality of machines, the method comprises steps of: providing a resource policy specifying allocation of resources amongst the plurality of programs; determining resources available at the plurality of machines; detecting requests for resources by each of the plurality of programs running on each of the plurality of machines; periodically exchanging resource information amongst the plurality of machines, the resource information including requests for resources and resource availability at each of the plurality of machines; and at each of the plurality of machines, allocating resources to each program based upon the resource policy and the resource information.
