  • Patent number: 10995678
Abstract: A gas turbine engine has a core engine including: a compressor, combustion equipment which receives compressed air from the compressor, a circumferential row of nozzle guide vanes, and a turbine. The nozzle guide vanes defines a throat receiving hot working gases from the combustion equipment into the turbine. The gas turbine engine further has an air system which is switchably operable between an on-position which opens a diversion pathway along which a portion of the compressed air exiting the compressor bypasses the combustion equipment to join the hot working gases at re-entry holes located between the nozzle guide vanes and a rotor at the front of the turbine, thereby increasing the semi-dimensional mass flow ?(T30)0.5/(P30) of the core engine at the exit of the compressor, and an off-position which closes the diversion pathway, thereby decreasing the semi-dimensional mass flow of the core engine at the exit of the compressor.

  • Patent number: 10822960
Abstract: A blade has a root portion and elongate portion extending from the root portion to a tip. The elongate portion has an aerofoil-shaped cross section having leading and trailing edges and suction and pressure sides. The tip may include a gutter defining squealer. The squealer has a wall extending from the trailing edge and along a substantial portion of the tip perimeter. A main trailing edge cooling channel extends within the elongate portion in a direction from root to tip adjacent the trailing edge and exiting into the gutter. A gallery channel is arranged just behind the gutter and extends from an open end intersecting the main trailing edge cooling channel to a closed end located just behind a trailing edge apogee. Cooling channels extend from the gallery channel and through the squealer wall. The gallery channel diameter is greater at the open end than the closed end.

  • Publication number: 20020000174
Abstract: A self-propelled and constant-acceleration rocket for use in triggering an avalanche includes a hollow cylindrical body member having an interior volume, an open top end, and an open bottom end whose exterior surface includes a plurality of flight guidance fins. A partition wall divides the interior volume into an upper volume and a lower volume. An explosive payload is mounted within the upper volume, and a nose cone having a circular and planar tip closes the open top end of the body member. A rocket motor is mounted within the lower volume. The rocket has a center of gravity and a center of pressure that are both located on the rocket's central axis and within the lower volume. The center of gravity is located closer to the open top end than is the center of pressure. A collapsible launch stand holds the rocket in a launch tube for launching of the rocket. Adjustment of a pair of launch tube support members provides for adjustment of the rocket's launch angle.
