Patent number: 7959127Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a dirty service valve including an axial trim which, as a result of its structural attributes and extended stroke length, provides increased Cv capacity relative to valve plug size in comparison to existing prior art designs. In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, the axial trim integrated into the valve of the present invention is configured to provide a linear flow characteristic. In accordance with an alternative embodiment of the present invention, the axial trim may be configured to provide a non-linear flow characteristic which, coupled with the extended stroke length thereof, provides improved flow control in addition to increased Cv capacity. The axial trim possessing the above-described structural and functional attributes may also be integrated into an axial body or housing, thus making the use of rotary actuators in conjunction with the axial trim more feasible.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 2008Date of Patent: June 14, 2011Assignee: Control Components, Inc.Inventors: Raymond R. Newton, Paul A. Smirl

Patent number: 7011109Abstract: A valve assembly comprising a rotary closure element which defines an axis of rotation and is selectively movable between a fully open position and a fully closed position. Mounted to and movable with the rotary closure element is an impedance assembly. The impedance assembly defines an inflow end and an outflow end, and comprises a plurality of tortuous passageways which extend from the inflow end to the outflow end. Also fully or partially defined by the impedance assembly is an enlarged flow opening which extends from the inflow end to the outflow end. The tortuous passageways and the flow opening are oriented relative to each other such that a portion of a flow through the valve assembly is directed into the tortuous passageways and a portion of the flow is directed through the flow opening when the closure element is in the fully open position.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2002Date of Patent: March 14, 2006Assignee: Control Components, Inc.Inventors: Duc Thanh Tran, Raymond R. Newton, Paul Smirl, Roger Bey, Tina Benac

Publication number: 20040094029Abstract: Disclosed is a piston positioning system for positioning a piston within a cylinder of a pneumatic circuit. The system comprises a piston position indicator for sensing an actual piston position, a controller for generating an output signal in response to the piston position signal, a pneumatic valving device for regulating the flow of pneumatic fluid and a solenoid valve configured to energize the pneumatic valving device. The pneumatic valving device comprises a four-way valve, a servo valve coupled to a stepper motor, and a two-way valve. The reversible stepper motor is incrementally rotatable over a desired angle of rotation in proportion to the magnitude of the output signal for linearly translating the servo valve such that the flow of pneumatic fluid maybe manipulated into and out of first and second ends of the cylinder to control the piston position therewithin.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 18, 2002Publication date: May 20, 2004Inventors: Stanley F. Miller, Paul Smirl, Flavio Tondolo

Patent number: 5390896Abstract: In order to discipate energy from a high pressure fluid without causing damage and environmental nuisanse an energy loss device is used. This device includes energy loss paths including void areas arranged to draw energy from the high pressure fluid as it passes through the path. These paths may also include turns and other features to enhance energy loss.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1993Date of Patent: February 21, 1995Assignee: Control Components, Inc.Inventor: Paul A.
