  • Patent number: 5024537
Abstract: Straight zipper sections are attached to a carrier tape for attachment to the mouth end of a bag. The straight zipper sections are mounted on the continuous tape in longitudinal series orientation, or in spaced side-by-side orientation across the length of the tape. The tape in either case may be fan folded and packed into a storage or shipping container. The tape provides for closing attachment across the mouth of a bag to provide a security membrane and/or a tamper evident structure required to be ruptured to gain initial access into the bag after the zipper is opened.

  • Patent number: 5005275
Abstract: An improved carrier tape is disclosed comprising an elongated base strip and an elongated cover strip both formed of a plastic film material. The base strip is provided with longitudinally spaced cavities for components to be transported therein as well as a series of spaced, longitudinally extending sprocket drive holes for advancing the tape. The cover strip has a raised hump on its top surface positioned so as to align with the sprocket holes when the tape is assembled. The hump defines a living hinge for the adjacent surfaces of the cover strip top face. Accordingly, when the hump is depressed the sidewalls of the cover strip move outwardly so as to clear the edges of the base strip. Conversely, when the hump is released, the sidewalls return to their relaxed position. A device for applying the cover strip to the base strip applies pressure to the hump of the cover strip while guiding the sidewalls of the cover strip around the top edge of the base strip.

  • Patent number: 4890935
Abstract: A leak resistant toothless plastic zipper is provided. The closed end of the zipper fused together and/or is secured in position by a clamp from which a gasket extends toward the open end of the zipper to engage with the zipper slider in sealing the gap that would otherwise form at the zipper closed end. A hook is provided to secure the tab of the zipper slider in sealing engagement with the gasket when the slider is at the closed end. The gasket may be disposed about the zipper elements or interposed between the elements. A bag incorporating such a zipper is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4824497
Abstract: An elongate continuous plastic fastener strip having a profile for interlocking engagement with another profile and having a web for attachment to a film with a member coextensive with the strip and attached thereto which prevents longitudinal stretching of the strip when a longitudinal force is applied thereto particularly concurrent with the application of heat to attach the strip to a plastic film. The member preventing extensibility is attached such as by coextrusion with the strip, by sandwiching between layers in the web or by attachment in the form of filaments to the web.

  • Patent number: 4822539
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for controlled coextrusion of plastic bag making film and a reclosable fastener male profile comprising extruding the film through an orifice with which is aligned a profile orifice and one or more alignment rib orifices as well as one or more stablizing ridge orifice cooperating with the profile and/or rib orifices. The resulting extruded product provides a bag making material comprising a plastic film carrying the zipper profile and with one or more alignment ribs in spaced parallel relation to the profile, with a reinforcing ridge or ridges effecting stabilizing beam effect in respect to the alignment rib or ribs and/or the profile during the processing of the extruded product into its final bag making material form. The extrudate for the film and the extrudate for the alignment rib or ribs may be derived from separate sources so that different plastics of different density or characteristics may be supplied to the alignment rib or ribs.

  • Patent number: 4791710
Abstract: A method and structure for a non-reopening extruded plastic profile fastener wherein complementary rib and groove type profiles are constructed and arranged to be pressed into interlocking relationship, and provided with restraining means against permanent interlocking so that the fastener can be handled as an assembly with the profiles aligned for interlocking but not interlocked until the means are overridden and the profiles pressed into interlocked relation with one form of the overridable means being a frangible diaphragm across the groove to prevent movement of the rib and in another form a projecting strut which is yieldable with the application of a predetermined force or which is removable to permit the profiles to be moved to fully interlocked position.

  • Patent number: 4756629
Abstract: A method and apparatus of forming a reclosable bag of flexible film wherein the bag has confronting side walls joined by seams at its edges and confronting rib and groove fastener strips at the top edge with the strips joined to the inner faces of the bag walls by bonding layers which have a predetermined width such that when a spot seal is formed at the ends of the strips, leakage is prevented between said strip ends so that the interconnecting profiles of the strips are sealed in permanent alignment. The flattened melted material of the spot seals is secured to the bag walls by the bonding layer and the predetermined width of the bonding layer is wider than the spot seals.

  • Patent number: 4581269
Abstract: For anchoring carpeting such as of the artificial turf type, or the like, to other such carpeting or to an anchoring device, scrim carrying separable fastener means in the form of an extruded strip having an attachment flange along one edge engaged with one face of a margin of the scrim and resiliently flexible rib and groove fastener profile structure extending longitudinally along an opposite edge of the strip and adapted to be interlocked with complementary fastener profile structure. A bonding ribbon is engaged with the opposite face of the scrim margin and is bonded to the attachment flange through openings in the scrim margin. A method of making the carpet anchoring assembly is adapted to be practiced in apparatus which provides for extrusion of both the fastener strip and the bonding ribbon toward the scrim margin and effecting thermoplastic bonding between pressure rolls as the scrim moves along a continuous fabrication path.

  • Patent number: 4355494
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided by which bag forming material is obtained by feeding sheet material (2) together with male and female closure elements (5, 6) to a nip between guide roller (3) and pressure rollers (9, 10) at which adhesive is applied from nozzles (11, 12). The resulting material assembly is fed by drive roller means (14, 15)to an accumulator (16) on a continuous basis and then intermittently over a forming shoulder (21) into a tubular form (22) while maintaining the closure elements (5, 6) at a predetermined distance apart before the forming shoulder (21) by means such as grooves (19) in guide roller (18) and locating the closure elements (5, 6) in predetermined positions facing each other downstream of the shaping shoulder by suitable means (23) which may include rotatable guide elements. The tubular form (22) is drawn through the apparatus by transverse reciprocating sealing bars (26) and a pilfer proof closure can be provided by vertical sealing bars (25).

  • Patent number: 4354541
Abstract: A closure strip (1) which incorporates a profiled closure element for use in resealable or reclosable bags is provided with a channel (4) in its surface which contacts a bag forming substrate material (6) for receiving adhesive (5). The presence of the channel ensures that a suitable thickness of adhesive is present at the time of bonding of the closure strip to the substrate. The invention also provides a method of making bag forming material by use of such a closure strip.
