Publication number: 20160290900Abstract: Method and apparatus for processing tissue specimens against decomposition, putrefaction and autolysis which use a simple three step procedure in a single vessel or container. First, the specimens are saturated with a solvent mixture of a ketone and a hydrocarbon, e.g., an Acetone/Hexane or an Acetone/Xylene mixture, to dissolve lipids and other cellular solutes. The container is then flooded with melted Paraffin. In a last step, the solvent mixture is vaporized and evacuated from the container, allowing the melted Paraffin to replace the vaporized solvent and impregnate the specimens. Raw, i.e., non-processed and non-burred specimens up to 5 mm thick can be processed in about 60 minutes. A solvent regenerator distills the evacuated solvent; and converts vent waste gases into carbon dioxide and water through a thermocatalytic oxidizer.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 13, 2016Publication date: October 6, 2016Inventor: Steven Paul Wheeler

Patent number: 9405835Abstract: A method and a system to provide generate a search result ranking function, processing a search, and presenting search results are described to provide generate a search result ranking function, processing a search, and presenting search results are described. In one embodiment, a genetic algorithm module receives a plurality of factors, a test set of items, and an ordering solution representing the preferred ordering of the test set of items, generates a potential ranking function based on the plurality of factors, and apply the potential ranking function to each item in the test set of items to generate an ordering of items associated with the potential ranking function. The genetic algorithm module also compares the ordering of items with the ordering solution, and identifies, based on the comparison, the potential ranking function as a solution ranking function. A ranking function may assign a ranking score to items in a set of active items, the ranking score based on the solution ranking function.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 2010Date of Patent: August 2, 2016Assignee: PayPal, Inc.Inventors: Paul Wheeler, Stephen Severance

Patent number: 8277453Abstract: Vertebral column manipulation systems include spinal derotation instrumentation to affect one or more derotation maneuvers on a scoliotic spine or on a spine having one or more displaced, misaligned or curved vertebral levels. Derotation instrumentation is attached to at least one vertebral body, with the instrumentation including at least two elongated extensions mounted to and extending proximally from the at least one vertebral body. A linking assembly extends between and links proximal ends of the extensions to one another. The linking assembly includes first and second mounting assemblies movably engaged to an elongate link member extending transversely to the extensions. Each of the mounting assemblies includes a movable joint for receiving the proximal end of a respective one of the extensions and a cam assembly for securing the mounting assembly in position relative to the link member and to fix the joint around the extension.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2009Date of Patent: October 2, 2012Assignee: Warsaw Orthopedic, Inc.Inventors: Douglas D Kave, Paula A Nichter, Paul Wheeler
