  • Patent number: 7730171
Abstract: The subject matter herein relates to database management systems and, more particularly, to decoupled logical and physical data storage within a database management system. Various embodiments provide systems, methods, and software that separate physical storage from logical storage of data. These embodiments include a mapping of logical storage to physical storage to allow data to be moved within the physical storage to increase database responsiveness.

  • Patent number: 7562195
Abstract: A system calculates the optimal allocation of two or more resources provided by a resource provider to a task within a computer system from a plurality of possible allocations. In doing so, the system calculates the total volume of an N-dimensional cube, where N is the number of resources provided by the resource provider, representing the respective amounts of resources available to be allocated. The system also calculates the average volume of the N-1 dimensional shapes forming the sides of the N-dimensional cube. The system then calculates, at least partly from the ratio of the total volume to the average volume, the balance resulting from the allocation of resources represented by the N-dimensional cube. The system then calculates the imbalance resulting from the allocation of resources at least partly from the balance and determines the smallest imbalance as the optimal allocation of resources.

  • Publication number: 20070067669
Abstract: A technique for use in identifying a failing storage device from a plurality of such storage devices involves the use of an inconsistency map. This inconsistency map is maintained by selecting one or more protected objects and identifying the storage devices on which the protected objects are stored. Copies of the protected objects on the identified storage devices are compared. On detecting a mismatch between copies of one of the protected objects, details are stored in an inconsistency map of the mismatched protected object and details of the storage devices on which the mismatched protected object is stored.

  • Publication number: 20050005520
Abstract: A method of reducing the amount of carbon monoxide in process fuel gas in a water gas shift converter. The method includes placing a high activity water gas shift catalyst system into a water gas shift converter, and passing the process fuel gas through the water gas shift converter in effective contact with the high activity water gas shift catalyst system and converting a portion of the carbon monoxide in the process fuel gas into carbon dioxide and hydrogen by a water gas shift reaction. The high water gas shift catalyst system includes a noble metal, a support comprising a mixed metal oxide of cerium oxide and at least one of zirconium oxide or lanthanum oxide. A promoter of yttrium, an alkali metal, or alkaline earth metal can be included. A support dopant can also be included.

  • Patent number: 6170975
Abstract: There is provided a multi-shaft kneading disc, kneading disc block, and a multi-shaft extruder containing the same. The kneading disc and each kneading disc in the kneading disc block having a disc shape with a central section defining an extruder shaft mounting bore and at least one lobe extending radially from said central section and having a crest end. The at least one lobe has a radius X which defines an outer diameter of the kneading disc. The central section has a radius Y which defines an inner diameter of the kneading disc. At least one other lobe extends radially from the central section and has a radius Z. The radius Z defines the outer diameter of at least one other lobe. The radius Z of the other lobe is equal to Y+⅞(X−Y) to Y+¼(X−Y).
