Abstract: A method and apparatus for identifying occurrences of a given network address is provided. A request is transmitted comprising data associated with the given network address to at least one remote communication device, the request for triggering a lookup of at least a portion of the data in a directory associated with the at least one remote communication device. At least one message is received indicative that the data associated with the given network address is present in the directory.

Abstract: A phone system for providing dial by specialty features that can dynamically update providers within the system. A dial by specialty service can be provided on a user's mobile device. The dial by specialty service can prompt the user to enter in specialty information, which can represent specific services or goods the user is looking for. The dial by specialty service can then search an augmented directory to find the telephone number of a provider who best satisfies the search criteria. In one embodiment, the service can place a call on behalf of the user to transfer the user to the telephone number. The providers at the time of being called can decline to accept the call from the dial by specialty service. The selected provider can also choose to be removed from the augmented directory altogether.

Abstract: A method of moving telephone communication from a first device engaged in a call, to a second device. The method includes initiating a determination of status of the first device from the second device, joining the second device to the call to form a conference in response to an active call status indication, and removing the first device from the conference, leaving the second device engaged in the call.

Abstract: A system and method for arranging a meeting time for a commuter with a transit system is disclosed. The method includes communicating the commuter's travel path, advance notification time, and contact information to the transit system. The commuter is informed via the commuter's contact information of an estimated arrival time for a transit vehicle in the transit system at a selected stop on the commuter's travel path. This enables the commuter to arrive at the selected stop based on the estimated arrival time. A transit vehicle driver is notified when the commuter has arrived at the transit vehicle on the commuter's travel path. The transit driver can then proceed with the commuter on the transit vehicle.

Abstract: A method and system of local call detection and notification are provided for a communication device that communicates with an enterprise system via a secure digital voice connection and locally with the Public Switched telephone system (PSTN) via an analog line. A dialing sequence at said communication device is detected within the enterprise system for which local call routing is to be applied. Call routing is then initiated through the enterprise system and a request message is sent to the communication device that includes the dialing sequence. The request message is received within the communication device, which in response determines availability of the analog line. In the event an analog line is available the communication device sends a response message to the enterprise system for aborting call routing through the enterprise system, and locally dials said the sequence over the analog line. In the event an analog line is not available call routing continues through the enterprise system.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for personalized calling party number determination and identification. The apparatus includes an interface for receiving a calling party number corresponding to a calling party, a memory for storing an alpha tag corresponding to the calling party number, and a processor coupled to the interface. The processor includes instructions to determine a character indicating presence of a character string including a unique identifier portion, a classification portion, and a calling party portion. The processor correlates the alpha tag to the calling party upon matching the calling party portion of the character string to the calling party number stored in the memory. The method of personalized calling party number determination and identification can occur for incoming or outgoing call messages relative to the communications network including the apparatus.

Abstract: A method, apparatus and system for provisioning a communication device in communication with a switch within a communication system is provided. A registration request is received from the communication device at the switch. A device identifier is assigned to the communication device, the device identifier uniquely identifying the communication device to the switch. An address identifier is derived for the communication device based on the device identifier and a string associated with at least the switch, such that the communication device is registered within the communication system via the address identifier in order to initiate and receive communications via the communication system. The device identifier, the string and the address identifier may be stored in a database in communication with the switch.

A softkey management mechanism is also described for managing presentation of context specific features for each softkey.

A number of potentially configurable entries in the list are determined. A block of memory for storing data associated with each potentially configurable entry is allocated from the memory. If the block of memory is insufficient for storing the data, at least one extended block of memory is allocated from the memory, for storing the data.
