  • Patent number: 10907428
Abstract: An assembly for hanging a tubular string includes a packoff (56) having a fastener and a seal for engaging an inner surface of the tubular string and a setting tool. The setting tool includes: a debris cap (84) for engaging an upper end of the tubular string, thereby forming a buffer chamber between the debris cap (84) and the packoff (56); a mandrel (66) having a port formed through a wall thereof; a piston (71): disposed along the mandrel, having an upper face in fluid communication with the port, and operable to stroke the debris cap relative to the mandrel, thereby setting a hanger of the tubular string; an actuator sleeve (71) extending along the mandrel and connected to the piston; a packer actuator (62) including a housing connected to the debris cap above the buffer chamber and a fastener for engaging a profile of the actuator sleeve; and a latch releasably connecting the housing to the mandrel.

  • Patent number: 10344552
Abstract: A rotating control device (RCD) which partitions the rotating speed of an inner barrel relative to a rotary and stationary seal via a roller bearing assembly. The roller bearing assembly causes the rotary seal to rotate at near half the speed, or portion of the speed thereof, of the inner barrel. Alternatively, a rotary seal assembly is rotatable by frictional contact with the inner barrel, and a stationary seal assembly is in frictional contact with the rotary seal assembly to prevent the rotary seal assembly from rotating at the same speed as the inner barrel. The speed differential between the inner barrel and the rotary seal, as well as between the rotary seal and the stationary seal is reduced by nearly half, which reduces wear and increases performance life of each seal.

  • Patent number: 10260313
Abstract: A method and apparatus for filling an annulus between a wellbore and a casing string with cement are provided. A baffle is arranged between a port on a side of the casing string and an interior volume of the casing string. The baffle includes orifices arranged there around that distribute the flow of cement about the circumference. After the cement has been pumped, a sealing sleeve is moved over the baffle and the port and forms a metal-to-metal seal that isolates the baffle and the port from the interior volume of the casing string.

  • Patent number: 10180038
Abstract: A tool for use in a wellbore comprising a seal assembly, a collet member, and a cone member. The seal assembly is coupled to the collet member and in engagement with the cone member. A force transferring member is movable from a first state that prevents relative movement between the seal assembly and the cone member, to a second state where the seal assembly is movable relative to the cone member.

  • Patent number: 10174579
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to extrusion-resistant seals for an expandable tubular assembly. In one aspect, a seal assembly for creating a seal between a first tubular and a second tubular is provided. The seal assembly includes an annular member attached to the first tubular, the annular member having a groove formed on an outer surface of the annular member. The seal assembly further includes a seal member disposed in the groove, the seal member having one or more anti-extrusion bands. The seal member is configured to be expandable radially outward into contact with an inner wall of the second tubular by the application of an outwardly directed force supplied to an inner surface of the annular member. Additionally, the seal assembly includes a gap defined between the seal member and a side of the groove. In another aspect, a method of creating a seal between a first tubular and a second tubular is provided.

  • Patent number: 10030480
Abstract: A method and apparatus for a debris barrier assembly having a sleeve, an outer housing assembly coupled to the sleeve, and first and second biasing members disposed within the outer housing assembly. A support member is coupled to the sleeve and is in contact with an end of the first and second biasing members. The debris barrier assembly is coupled to a polished bore receptacle to prevent debris from entering the PBR. The debris barrier assembly is operable to compensate for a pressure differential between the internal region of the PBR and the external region of the surrounding wellbore. The debris barrier assembly and the PBR may be run in the wellbore on a work string, and the sleeve may be actuated to actuate a downhole tool connected to the sleeve to perform a downhole operation. The debris barrier assembly may be retrieved from the wellbore using the work string.

  • Patent number: 9810037
Abstract: A tool for use in a wellbore comprising a seal assembly and a cone member configured to force the seal assembly radially outward into engagement with the wellbore. A shear thickening fluid is disposed within an area formed between the seal assembly and the cone member. The shear thickening fluid is configured to prevent relative movement between the cone member and the seal assembly when the shear thickening fluid is changed from a substantially fluid state to a substantially solid state due to a sudden force applied to the shear thickening fluid, by release of a sheared mechanism for example.
