Publication number: 20190080298Abstract: The invention provides a method of assessing suitability of a component for assembly in an electronic processing device. A first step of the method comprises obtaining a component of an electronic processing device. This may be obtained from a disassembled electronic processing device. The method includes subjecting said component to a plurality of tests where at least two of said tests are of a different technical character to each other and assessing test data derived from each of said plurality of tests to determine to a selected or calculated degree of confidence whether or not the tested component is to be considered as a suitable component for assembly in an electronic processing device of a type to which the tested component belongs. The test data may be automatically assessed by a data processing system.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 10, 2018Publication date: March 14, 2019Inventors: Gary Q. Lau, Paul Anthony Smith

Patent number: 10157374Abstract: The invention provides a method of reconditioning a mobile electronic processing device. The method comprises firstly disassembling a mobile electronic processing device to at least obtain a main processor board assembly having an operational International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) of the disassembled mobile electronic processing device stored in a memory of the main processor board assembly. Then, to assessing suitability of the main processor board assembly for reassembly in a mobile electronic processing device. If suitable, to reassembling said main processor board assembly with a reconditioned or new LCD screen assembly and a reconditioned or new housing assembly to thereby provide a reconditioned mobile electronic processing device taking said IMEI of the disassembled mobile electronic processing device as its operational IMEI.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2018Date of Patent: December 18, 2018Assignee: EcoRenew DMCCInventors: Gary Q. Lau, Paul Anthony Smith

Patent number: 9924297Abstract: A Bluetooth system is comprised of a Bluetooth device and multiple network devices connectable to the Bluetooth device. This Bluetooth device can selectively switch connection pairings with devices in the network based on some triggering event. The switching function automatically occurs between the Bluetooth and network devices without any user intervention. This pairing enables seamless collaboration between devices owned by an owner based on the power settings and usage of the system without needing the user's interaction.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 2014Date of Patent: March 20, 2018Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Mario Alessandro Maldari, Corville Orain Allen, Paul Anthony Smith

Publication number: 20160019741Abstract: When a first vending machine fails to dispense a purchased item to a consumer, the first vending machine requests a fail-over vending machine designation and transfer of credit to the fail-over vending machine. A server receives the request, finds a candidate vending machine in proximity to the first vending machine which also has the item in stock, creates a credit token, and places the item on hold at the second vending machine.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 15, 2014Publication date: January 21, 2016Inventors: Saurabh Dua, Mario Alessandro Maldari, Paul Anthony Smith, Jarett Stein, Sahdevsinh P. Patent number: 7024331Abstract: A position determining system in which a mobile tag having an unknown position is tracked in space over time. In use, the mobile tag either transmits or receives signals including a pair of tones at different frequencies from a number of base stations having known locations. The phase of each of the received signals is then measured and the measured phases are then passed to a processing unit which determines the position of the tag at the time of the transmission of the signals on the basis of the difference between the measured phases of the two tones. In one embodiment, this system is combined with a conventional phase-based position measurement which is derived from phase measurements of similar tones transmitted between the mobile tag and different base stations.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2004Date of Patent: April 4, 2006Assignee: Scientific Generics LimitedInventors: Aled Wynne Jones, Paul Anthony Smith, Paul Joseph Bearpark, Michael Raymond Reynolds, Daniel Reginald Ewart Timson, Andrew Michael Rhodes, Nicolas Vasilopoulos, Peter Duffet-Smith, David Bartlett

Patent number: 5871818Abstract: A coating device for use in coating circular cross-sectioned substrates has a semi-circular doctor blade. The coater may also have a plate for holding axially symmetric substrates which can be rotated about an axis. A groove in the plate centers the substrate on the plate for rotation. The doctor blade is located adjacent to the substrate such that when the plate and substrate are rotated, the doctor blade applies a uniform thickness of coating to one side of the substrate. After one side of the substrate has been coated, the other side is coated by placing the substrate coated side down on a plate with a larger groove to accommodate the increased size of the substrate due to coating.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1997Date of Patent: February 16, 1999Assignee: Illinois Superconductor CorporationInventors: Timothy William Button, Geoffrey Dolman, Carl Meggs, Paul Anthony Smith
