  • Patent number: 4964379
Abstract: Two pistons in adjacently situated cylinders in a twin-piston two-stroke engine share a common combustion chamber. To ensure low exhaust gas emissions with low consumption, a lean mixture is burnt whereof the complete combustion is made possible by designing the combustion chamber so that circulation of the ignited mixture takes place and the mixture burns through rapidly. The twin-piston two-stroke engine may also be devised to run with a stratified charge, the centrally arranged partition in the twin cylinder providing excellent separation between the lean and rich mixture portions.

  • Patent number: 4759323
Abstract: The combustion engine forms "squish" spaces between the piston and the cylinder head and has additional guide means in the combustion chamber which create a rotational flow in the combustion chamber. The floor of the combustion chamber is formed by a trough-shaped recess in the piston head, so that it forms a "squish" space extending over the complete width of the combustion chamber. In the area between the valves, a further, central "squish" space extends which, in conjunction with the wall of the cylinder head which is situated above it, forms a further "squish" space flow which reinforces the lateral "squish" space flow. In this way the ignition timing can be further retarded and the temperature peak reduced together with an additional reduction in emissions of oxides of nitrogen. A very weak mixture with an excess of air of 30% or more can be ignited which likewise maintains a low burning temperature thus producing less nitrous oxide.

  • Patent number: 4751902
Abstract: The procedure for the introduction of a layer charge for Otto motors uses a richer mixture in the area of the spark plug and a correspondingly weaker for the remaining areas. The rich mixture is led under pressure through "squish" spaces to the spark plug, in which, in one embodiment, at least one flow vortex accelerated at medium power by the type and shape of the combustion chamber together with the position of the "squish" spaces is created. In this way a very low fuel consumption at minimal carbon monoxide, hydrocarbon and nitrogen content of the exhaust gas is achieved. The motor can be driven at a total mixture composition of Lambda 1.5 or more, in which a readily ignitable mixture of Lambda 0.8 to 1.0 is injected into in the area of the spark plug.

  • Patent number: 4565181
Abstract: Internal combustion engine with one or more compression gap zones between piston and cylinder head at each side of a reduced size combustion chamber, and deflection means in the combustion chamber through which unidirectional rotary flow is induced in the fuel charge.

  • Patent number: 4169471
Abstract: A modification to or ancillary apparatus for carburetors for internal combustion engines to prepare liquid fuel for internal combustion engines by supplying supplementary air such as air or exhaust gas into the induction system downstream of the butterfly valve of the carburetor having at least one slit for discharging into the induction system supplementary air dependent upon a control member and its relation to the butterfly valve position. In one embodiment air enters through one slit at all times during engine operation to primarily improve idling mixture while air is supplied to the second slit in quantities dependent upon the butterfly valve position. In a second embodiment the air is supplied by way of one or more slits in quantities determined by the butterfly valve setting but without the continuous air supply independent of that butterfly valve position for idling mixture.
