Abstract: A system for the management of the interaction between the patient and health care providers and of the patient's medical records. The patient receives reward points for using the program that involves selecting health-care providers from a preferred list. The system employs a smartcard that securely identifies the patient, securely carries the patient's medical records in memory, and carries the records of the patient's reward points. Each healthcare provider has highly-secure equipment that allows the reading from and writing to the smartcard. The system is managed by a remote central computer system that operates over a global communication network.
