  • Patent number: 4784749
Abstract: A process is provided for converting feedstock comprising hydrocarbon compounds to product comprising hydrocarbon compounds of lower molecular weight than feedstock hydrocarbon compounds over a catalyst comprising a siliceous zeolite prepared by the method comprising providing zeolite Beta containing boron and aluminum, treating the zeolite with silicon tetrachloride at a temperature and for a time sufficient to replace boron with silicon, and recovering the siliceous zeolite having reduced boron content but substantially preserved initial aluminum content. In particular embodiments, the conversion is selective cracking for waxes and the process is useful for reducing the pour point of fuel oils and lubricants.

  • Patent number: 4716136
Abstract: Macrostructural units of various shapes and forms having a catalytically-active zeolite surface particularly useful in catalyzing hydrocarbon conversion reactions are prepared by:(a) mixing a slurry containing one or more of finely divided silicon, silica gel, alumina, aluminum hydroxide and kaolin, and having the desired ratio of silicon atoms to aluminum atoms, with plasticizer to form a plastic mass;(b) shaping the plastic mass to a desired configuration;(c) calcining the shaped plastic mass at 500.degree. to 800.degree. C. for 1 to 10 hours to form a rigid macrostructural unit having the same configuration as the shaped plastic mass;(d) crystallizing 5 to 80% of the rigid macrostructural unit obtained by calcination to crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite; and,(e) activating the crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite to catalytically-active zeolite.

  • Patent number: 4701313
Abstract: The present invention relates to siliceous zeolite catalysts produced by a method which includes selecting an amount of aluminum framework species to be retained in a zeolite catalyst product, and use of a silicon substitution treatment to replace more reactive framework species used to control aluminum framework concentration. This technique substantially preserves the selected amount of the aluminum framework species. The zeolite product obtained has high reactivity and stability.

  • Patent number: 4339353
Abstract: Normal aliphatic hydrocarbons in a hydrocarbon feed are selectively cracked or hydrocracked by contacting the feed with a catalyst composition comprising a crystalline acid aluminosilicate of the erionite variety (offretite) having a pore size of about 5 Angstroms and a silicon to aluminum ratio of at least 1.8, said aluminosilicate having been prepared by ion exchange with an aqueous medium containing a source of hydrogen ions or ions capable of conversion thereto, e.g., ammonium ions.

  • Patent number: 4300009
Abstract: Living plants and animals synthesize and often accumulate a wide variety of organic materials having a molecular weight greater than 150. These include different chemical types such as natural hydrocarbons including rubbery substances, natural resins, and natural glycerides such as oils and fats. These substances, formed in the anabolic process, are collectively called "anabolites".This invention provides a process for catalytically converting certain anabolites to liquid hydrocarbons useful for the manufacture of fuels such as gasoline and chemicals such as para-xylene. Crystalline aluminosilicate zeolites having an effective pore size of greater than about 5 Angstrom units are useful catalysts.

  • Patent number: 4098339
Abstract: Natural gas of low heating value, high CO.sub.2 content, is converted to valuable products by the combination process of steam reforming the desulfurized gas, subjecting the effluent of the steam reformer to a water gas shift reaction and converting the resultant carbon dioxide, the unreacted carbon monoxide and hydrogen to liquid product useful as fuel, e.g. methanol. In a preferred embodiment, the gas phase separated from the liquid fuel products is processed to provide a gas sufficiently rich in carbon dioxide for use in tertiary recovery of petroleum from natural reservoirs which have produced the quantity of oil available by natural drive.

  • Patent number: 4032431
Abstract: A process is disclosed for upgrading a naphtha which has been subjected to a reforming process which involves contacting said reformed naphtha together with added hydrogen with a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite having a pore size of about 4.5 to 6 Angstrom units and a silica to alumina ratio of at least 3, said aluminosilicate having hydrogenation/dehydrogenation activity. Another embodiment of the invention resides in mixing a reforming catalyst with said crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite.
