  • Patent number: 6310749
Abstract: A disk drive having a novel actuator assembly. The actuator assembly comprises a voice coil motor assembly, a pivotable actuator arm, and a head gimbal assembly including a read/write head. The voice coil motor assembly is attached at a back end of the actuator arm, and the head gimbal assembly is mounted on the actuator arm on a front end opposite of the back end. The voice coil motor assembly includes a voice coil interposed between two magnets and a top plate and a bottom plate. The voice coil motor assembly is secured to the base of the disk drive by posts. The actuator arm includes the back end, a pivot point and impeding apertures. The impeding apertures include two holes located near the back end of the actuator arm between the pivot point and the voice coil motor assembly and extend entirely through the actuator arm. The actuator arm may also include plugging members. The plugging members are inserted into the impeding apertures and extend entirely through the impeding apertures.

  • Patent number: 5287819
Abstract: A tufting machine having individual crank assemblies for reciprocating the push rods which carry the needle bar. Successive crank shafts aligned with each other and parallel to two main drive shafts which are rotated in opposite directions. Gears on the main drive shafts respectively transfer power from the two drive shafts so as to rotate each successive crank shaft in a direction opposite from the direction of rotation of the preceding crank shaft. The connecting rods connected to the crank assemblies thus are thrown outwardly in opposite directions as the crank shafts are rotated, so as to balance the machine. Additional counter-balance weights are provided on the main drive shafts.

  • Patent number: 5000434
Abstract: An insert track (30) of an insertion machine comprises a continuous elastomer belt (32) which travels a horizontal plate 9101) and proximate a plurality of insert station hoppers (52H-57H). The plate (101) has an upper surface (103) formed from an ultra high molecular weight (UHMW) polyethylene. The plate (101) is sandwiched in a friction fit between the insertion machine frame (100) and a track front edge guide (105). The plate carries a track rear edge guide (104). • Patent number: 4955185
Abstract: An insertion machine includes an insertion station (44) whereat groups of items are stuffed into an envelope held open at an envelope opening station (49). The insertion station comprises an cam (212)-driven carriage (202) which linearly reciprocates in a direction (480) toward and away from the envelope opening station (49). The carriage (202) carries a plurality of selectively mounted, selectively rotatable pusher fingers (204). The pusher fingers (204) have a profile suitable for shoving items along a partially inclined insertion plate surface 403 and into an opened envelope. The pusher fingers (204) are selectively rotatable to an operative orientation (720) and to an inoperative orientation (722) under the supervision of a controller (205). Jam detectors (550, 552) are provided proximate reciprocating entry fingers (500, 502) which move when a jam occurs in the inserting process. Should a jam occur, the pusher fingers (204) are controlled to rotate to their inoperative orientation (722).

  • Patent number: 4669716
Abstract: Both positive pressure fluid and negative pressure fluid are used in a method and by an apparatus to at least partially separate a sheet prior to the feeding of the sheet. A carriage 22 having registration arms 160 resiliently coupled thereto is rotated toward a sheet lying in a storage position in a hopper 200. The carriage 22 bears both a positive pressure-communicating port 54 and negative pressure-communicating orifice, preferably in the form of two bellows-type sucker cups 56A, 56B. Positive pressure fluid is applied through port 54 in a manner whereby at least a portion of sheet 220 is attracted to a surface 52 in which ports 54 lie. While positive pressure fluid is being applied, the carriage 22 is rotated away from the storage position of the sheet 220, thereby deflecting at least a portion of the sheet about a first axis 208 of the sheet 220.
