  • Publication number: 20150156126
Abstract: A data signal is transmitted in a wireless communication system from a primary station to a secondary station. The data signal comprising a medium access control header (MAC-hs header) and a protocol data unit associated with the medium access control header. The medium access control header comprising a set at least one field (e.g. TSN, SEG, LI, FMT, LCid), wherein a size allocated to at least one field of the set is determined based on a length of the protocol data unit. For example, the size allocated to a segmentation indication field (SEG) determined for a protocol data unit of a first length is less than the size determined for a protocol data unit of a second length, the second length being higher than the first length, the segmentation indication depending on a number of segments that the protocol data unit is subdivided into.

  • Patent number: 9025573
Abstract: A communication method in a first apparatus, in which the first apparatus receives data via a direct route from a second apparatus and transmits in response an acknowledgement signal, wherein if the same data has also been transmitted via an indirect route and the data is not properly received via the direct route, the first apparatus introduces an indirect-route delay in transmitting the acknowledgement signal to allow receipt of the data via the indirect route, and otherwise no indirect-route delay is introduced.

  • Patent number: 9020546
Abstract: A scheme to reduce the problem of radio interference between wireless devices such as MTC devices in a multi-RAT scenario. Wireless devices are configured (S10) for interference reporting in accordance with their capabilities. Information is collected, not only on interference measurements reported by the wireless devices, but also on device signatures (S12) and transmission patterns (S14) for the purpose of attributing interference, suffered by a reporting device, to one or more offending devices (S16). One or more mitigation techniques is then applied to the offending device and/or the reporting device (S20-S24). The scheme provides an additional stability mechanism for existing interference mitigation and co-existence schemes by using device management and avoiding potential conflicts across diverse systems.

  • Patent number: 8953519
Abstract: A method of transmitting a data signal in a wireless communication system from a primary station to a secondary station, where the data signal includes a medium access control header (MAC-hs header) and a protocol data unit associated with the medium access control header. The medium access control header includes a set of fields (TSN, SEG, LI, LCid). The method includes determining a size allocated to at least one field of the set based at least in part on a length of the protocol data unit. For example, the size allocated to a segmentation indication field (SEG) determined for a first length of the protocol data unit is lower than the one determined for a second length of the protocol data unit, where the second length being higher than said first length, where the segmentation indication indicates in how many segments the protocol data unit is subdivided.

  • Publication number: 20150016350
Abstract: A Small Cell Network in which a terminal (1) is simultaneously served by a macro cell (10) and one or more small cells (20, 22, 24). When suitable uplink resources are not provided for data (PUSCH), the terminal (1) selects a cell and/or resource on which to transmit a scheduling request, or if no resource is allocated for scheduling requests (SR) the invention allows the terminal to select a suitable uplink cell and/or signature for a random access transmission (PRACH), and/or characteristic of a signal used to request such resources. A RACH transmission may also take place if SR has been transmitted more than a defined number of times without PUSCH resources being granted. Use of the most appropriate cell/resource for the request will improve the achievable data rate and system capacity.

  • Patent number: 8934399
Abstract: An LTE mobile communication system in which relays RN (14), each in communication with a donor eNB (13) are used to improve the coverage of high data rates, the cell-edge throughput and/or to increase system throughput. The problem addressed is that in the RN??DeNB (13) Un interface, all the S1-AP and/or X2-AP messages with different QoS requirements (for example different S1-AP/X2-AP messages that have different time criticalities) have to be delivered in a limited number of Data or Signalling Radio Bearers. A multiplexing mechanism enables the categorization of different types of S1-AP and/or X2-AP messages and the mapping of these to a limited number of Radio Bearers over the Un radio interface.

  • Publication number: 20140307611
Abstract: In a wireless communication network, a Device-to-Device (D2D) link is set up using a modified Random Access (RACH) procedure. The conventional RACH procedure is modified to enable a D2D-capable UE (11) to indicate its capability to other UEs (12), to receive additional information from a base station (20), and to enable the handshake procedure used to establish a D2D link. Broadcast system information may additionally be modified to enable D2D links between UEs (11, 12) in the same or different coverage areas, taking into consideration the RRC UE states (RRC_Connected or RRC_Idle). The proposed modifications to the broadcast system information include: an indication of D2D link opportunities with other UEs under a different coverage area to that of the D2D capable UE; and RACH parameters in the coverage area of the D2D capable UE, to indicate the listening period for the D2D link.

  • Patent number: 8730968
Abstract: A method of operating a communication system in which transmissions in a first direction, say from a base station, comprise frames formed by data packets and transmissions in a second direction, say from a user equipment (U E), comprise substantially continuous transmissions having acknowledgement fields (ARQ-A, ARQ-B) for data packets and transmission gaps (GP) to allow the UE to make other measurements. The acknowledgement fields are mapped to the data packets to enable the base station to determine which data packets are being acknowledged. In order to avoid ambiguity in mapping acknowledgement fields to data packets when a transmission gap occurs, a single data packet is transmitted in either the frame whose acknowledgement field would occur in the transmission gap or the frame whose acknowledgement field would occur immediately following the transmission gap.
