  • Publication number: 20090077793
Abstract: Methods and system for making and using vacuum switching devices are disclosed. A vacuum switching device has an operating rod for actuating a movable electrical contact within the device. The operating rod may be a hollow epoxy glass tube with an electrical sensor disposed within it, and there may be an elastomeric polymer filling compound disposed within the tube and encasing the sensor. The operating rod may be attached to the movable electrical contact on one end by a steel end-fitting that has been press-fit into the tube and secured with at least one cross pin. In this way, a very secure electromechanical connection may be made between the operating rod and the rest of the vacuum switching device, and the sensor is protected from shock associated with the operation of the device. Moreover, the vacuum switching device is compact and easy to construct.

  • Publication number: 20090079801
Abstract: A piezoelectric ink jet head that includes a polymer film, for example a flex print, located between the piezoelectric element and the reservoirs in the jet body. The film provides an efficient seal for the reservoirs and also positions the electrodes on the side of the piezoelectric element in which motion is effected, which can reduce the magnitude of the drive voltage. This location of the compliant flex print material also can enhance electrical and mechanical isolation between reservoirs, which improves jetting accuracy. The compliance of the polymer also reduces strain on the ink jet head.

  • Publication number: 20090079729
Abstract: Technologies are described herein for rendering documents containing three-dimensional objects. A client computer receives a request to display a document. If a program utilized to create the document is not available to display the document, the client computer transmits a request to a server computer to render the document, including the rendering of any three-dimensional objects contained therein. In response to receiving the request, the server computer determines whether the document contains any three-dimensional objects. If the document contains three-dimensional objects, the server computer renders the three-dimensional objects. Once the three-dimensional objects have been rendered, the remaining portion of the document is also rendered. The rendered version of the document is then returned to the client computer in response to the original request to render the document. The rendered document is then displayed on the client computer by a standard viewer application.

  • Publication number: 20090079050
Abstract: According to an example embodiment, there is method (100) for manufacturing a semiconductor device in an air-cavity package. For a device die having an active surface, a lead frame is provided (5), the lead frame has a top-side surface and an under-side surface, the lead frame has predetermined pad landings on the top-side surface. A laminate material is applied (10) to the top-side surface of the lead frame. In the laminate material, an air-cavity region and contact regions are defined (15, 20, 25, 30, 35). The contact regions provide electrical connections to the predetermined pad landings on the lead frame. With the active circuit surface in an orientation toward the laminate material, the device die is mounted (40, 45). The bond pads of the active surface circuit are connected with ball bonds to the predetermined pad landings on the lead frame. An air-cavity is formed between the active surface of the device die and the top-side surface of the lead frame.

  • Publication number: 20090080690
Abstract: A method of imaging a coding pattern disposed on a surface of a substrate. The method comprises the steps of: (a) operatively positioning an optical reader relative to the surface and capturing an image of a portion of the coding pattern; (b) sampling and decoding a Reed-Solomon codeword contained in the imaged portion; and (c) determining, using the decoded codeword, a position of said reader, an identity of the substrate digital signature, and/or a fragment of an embedded data object. The coding pattern encodes Reed-Solomon symbols using mixed multi-pulse position modulation, with a higher number of Reed-Solomon symbol values available for redundancy symbols than data symbols.
