  • Patent number: 8607386
Abstract: A prone positioning apparatus includes a support member for supporting an infant in a prone position. The support member has first and second ends, first and second sides having first and second opposing recesses, respectively, a top surface facing the infant, and a bottom surface. A first portion disposed at or about the first end, supports the infant's head or trunk. A second portion extends from the first portion and supports the other of the infant's head or trunk. The infant's head and trunk are, therefore, aligned and elevated with respect to at least a portion of the infant's arms and legs, in order that the infant's spine is substantially straight. The first and second recesses receive at least a portion of one of the infant's arms. A support system including at least one accessory for securing the infant in the prone position, is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20090197828
Abstract: A solution of sucrose and water is packaged and placed in an aseptic state in a cup-shaped container with a removable cover for single patient use. A plurality of containers is shipped from a preparation site to a site of usage such as a hospital. A single container of the solution is opened at a site of a procedure for a neonatal infant, and the solution administered prior to the procedure as well as during or afterward, as needed for analgesic effect. Any residual solution is discarded after the procedure to prevent cross contamination of other patients.

  • Patent number: 6956175
Abstract: A scale including an event data discrimination and collection system for continuously monitoring a weight of an infant placed on the scale platen, which may be configured as a bed. Load cells are used to continuously monitor infant weight from time placed on the scale platen, so that sudden apparent weight spikes sensed by the load cells but attributable to events involved in patient care may be discarded as artifact, while gradual weight changes reflective of infant physiology are accumulated by the scale controller and used to provide a current weight for the infant.

  • Patent number: 6723115
Abstract: An apparatus for warming a portion of a human body, such as a foot of a neonatal infant, comprising an elongated, flexible pouch defining an internal chamber containing a selecting initiable heat generating material, the pouch including a first relatively longer segment and a second relatively shorter segment joined along a narrower neck region. The two segments are independently securable to, for example, the foot of an infant, the longer first segment being secured to the bottom of the foot and extending to the heel and the shorter segment extending upwardly from the heel. Independent securement may be effected by a strap secured to and extending transversely from each segment and having adhesive at a distal end thereof, one strap being wrapped over the instep of the infant to secure the larger segment and the other strap being wrapped forwardly about the ankle, the distal ends of both straps being adhered to their respect segments.

  • Patent number: 6571799
Abstract: Protective eye shades for an infant comprising an outer sheath having two enlarged, oval segments connected by a narrower segment comprising a nose bridge and resilient eye rims secured to the enlarged oval segments and projecting from the outer sheath. The outer sheath may be secured over the infant's face using structure selected from the group consisting of adhesives, hydrocolloids, gels, nets and straps. A preferred bonnet structure for securing the eye shades is also disclosed, the bonnet structure being removably securable to the eye shades using engagement of hook and loop fabric, one of the hook and loop being carried by the eye shades and the other of the hook and loop being carried by the bonnet structure.
