Patent number: 12115771Abstract: In devices with flexible displays, multilayer adhesive stacks may be included. A multilayer adhesive may attach a flexible display panel to the display cover layer in an electronic device. Including multiple layers of adhesive in the adhesive stack (as opposed to a single layer) provides more degrees of freedom for the tuning and optimization of the properties of the adhesive stack. The multilayer adhesive stack therefore has better performance than if only a single layer of adhesive is used. The multilayer adhesive stack may include one or more layers of soft adhesive, hard adhesive, hard elastomer, hard polymer, and/or glass to optimize the mechanical and optical performance of the multilayer adhesive stack. Soft adhesive layers may be included to optimize lateral decoupling (e.g., during folding and unfolding) of the adhesive stack. Harder layers may be included to provide rigidity and prevent denting during impact events.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 2022Date of Patent: October 15, 2024Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Xiaowei Wu, Hoon Sik Kim, Yuxi Zhao, Terry C Lam, Yasmin F Afsar, Chang-Chia Huang, Bhadrinarayana Lalgudi Visweswaran, Supriya Goyal, Paul S Drzaic

Patent number: 12087187Abstract: A flexible display in a foldable electronic device may have a display cover layer and display panel that bend around a bend axis. The display panel may have an array of pixels configured to display an image through the display cover layer. The pixels may be formed from thin-film display circuitry that is supported by a flexible display panel substrate. The flexible substrate may be supported by a display support plate that bends about the bend axis. The display may be configured to allow attachment of the display panel substrate to the display support plate while helping to prevent undesired localized deformation of the thin-film display circuitry.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 2022Date of Patent: September 10, 2024Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Yasmin F. Publication number: 20240260308Abstract: An electronic device may have a hinge that allows the device to be flexed about a bend axis. A display may span the bend axis. To facilitate bending about the bend axis without damage, the display may include a display cover layer with a flexible portion. The flexible portion of the display cover layer may be interposed between first and second rigid portions of the display cover layer. The display cover layer may also include a layer with self-healing properties. The layer of self-healing material may be formed across the entire display cover layer or may be formed only in the flexible region of the display cover layer. The display cover layer may include a layer of elastomer in the flexible region of the display cover layer for increased flexibility. Self-healing may be initiated or expedited by externally applied heat, light, electric current, or other type of external stimulus.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 8, 2024Publication date: August 1, 2024Inventors: Hoon Sik Kim, Terry C. Lam, Chang-Chia Huang, Paul S. Drzaic, Yasmin F. Afsar, Young Cheol Yang, Leiming Wang

Publication number: 20070236502Abstract: The combination of complex physical simulations and realistic real-time interactive virtual environments provides engineers with a means to test the design in various environments before finishing the final products, and program management with a means for better communication and measurement of progress. The present invention provides a system that combines complicated physical simulations with a real-time visualization software tool, and displays the results in realistic 3D environments. The Generic Visualization System (GVS) displays the combined results of many different simulation programs, including several Semi-Automated Forces (SAF) variations (e.g., OneSAF, JSAF, and others), simultaneously.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 6, 2007Publication date: October 11, 2007Inventors: Paul C. Patent number: 7092867Abstract: The present invention is a Control System Architecture (CSA) for a multi-component armament system. The CSA provides dynamic reconfiguration of multiple nodes (e.g. a component, a subsystem, or a virtual simulation) in a Simulation-Emulation-Stimulation (SES) environment utilizing redundant client-server bus configuration of the nodes in a hierarchical model. The CSA provides for ease of configuration of nodes for any specific application, automated system reconfiguration capabilities to detect and bypass failed nodes or re-group available remaining nodes in the event of degraded mode operation, and expansion and/or downsizing of nodes without requiring a modification to the overall system architecture.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2000Date of Patent: August 15, 2006Assignee: BAE Systems Land & Armaments L.P.Inventors: Paul C. Huang, Omar A. Khan, Albert Sleder, Jr.

Patent number: 6875019Abstract: An integrable naval virtual target range system and method provides three-dimensional graphical viewing capabilities of a virtual target range so that naval and fire support personnel can train together during both simulated and live fire exercises. The virtual target range system comprises a control subsystem having a computer system and a spotter subsystem for monitoring virtual impact points on the virtual target range. The target system may further comprise a buoy subsystem and/or an aerial vehicle subsystem, for use during live fire exercises, to locate ordnance impact points used for calculating the virtual impact points.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 2002Date of Patent: April 5, 2005Assignee: United Defense, LPInventors: Paul C. Huang, Norman S. Scott, Omar A. Khan, Albert Sleder, Jr., David C. Heim
