    Abstract: A quick-connect fastener for removably fastening a component between a first abutment and a moveable shaft. The first abutment is part of a base member and optionally a second abutment may be attached to a shaft. The shaft extends through the base member and is connected to a hand-operated actuator. The quick-connect fastener further includes a locking mechanism that has two mating parts; one mounted to the shaft, and the other mounted to the base member. As a user moves the hand-operated actuator between a locked position and a release position, the first mating part moves both angularly and in a direction along the longitudinal axis of the shaft, in relation to the second mating part. The movement of the two mating parts in relation to each other causes the spacing between the first and second abutments to vary, thereby allowing a component to be fastened and unfastened between the two abutments.

    Abstract: A set of modules for a bagging machine that are assemblable to form a compression chamber for compressing at least one item prior to the at least one item being inserted into a bag. The compression chamber includes a first module and a second module that both have side plates that form the side walls of the compression chamber and transverse plates that form the transverse walls of the chamber. The modules are connected to actuators that impart movement to both the side plates and transverse plates in unison, such that the two modules move towards and away from each other. The set of modules can be connected to the bagging machine via quick-connect fasteners.

The curb frame is sealed to the base by means of a hollow second gasket preferably secured to the base but separate from the butyl gasket.

The curb frame is constructed by welding at the corners of the support frame but eliminating the welding in the area of the thermal barrier thus alleviating a caulking operation at the top and the bottom of the curb frame.

    Abstract: A safety vent preferably for use in a high rise building for permitting the escape of smoke and fumes and comprising a fixed frame accommodated by an opening in the building, a movable frame pivotally secured to the fixed frame and means for biasing the movable frame to an open position. In the preferred embodiment the movable frame includes panel means and pivots at its lower end. A latch mechanism maintains the movable frame in a closed position while a release mechanism, operated either electrically or pneumatically, can be energized to permit opening of the vent. Limiting means in the form of shock absorbers or snubbers interconnect between frames for limiting the open position of the vent.

    Abstract: A covering for an expansion joint of a building is formed from an extruded thin vinyl strip having a relatively thick expanded plastic insulating strip secured to one side of the vinyl strip. A reinforcing strip of material may be bonded securely to the vinyl between the vinyl and foam insulating strip in a sandwiched configuration to provide dimensional stability for the assembly and particularly to resist shrinkage of the assembly in a longitudinal direction. The vinyl strip is wider than the foam insulating strip to define longitudinal marginal flanges extending along the length of the strip. Metal nailing strips are embedded in the longitudinal flanges to facilitate attachment of the flanges to the spaced building sections which define the expansion joint. The nailing strips are formed to define a weakened, longitudinally extending line to facilitate longitudinal bending of the flanges along the nailing strips directly at the construction site without the use of heavy bending equipment.

    Abstract: A spool for thread or the like is provided with means for locking or securing the spool in position over a spindle. The spool may be of the type having a base member and a substantially cylindrical portion in which the thread may be taken from the spool in a direction substantially parallel to the spool axis. A locking means is provided to prevent spool jumping when the thread on the spool is partially removed making the spool with the remaining thread thereon lighter. In one embodiment, radial score marks, indentations or grooves are formed in a thin membrane section of the spool formed across the bore of the spool. The spool is designed so that the thin membrane will break along the radial score marks when placed over the spindle with the inwardly pointing ends of the thin membrane engaging the spindle thereby holding the spool down. In another embodiment, an adhesive is provided on the bottom of the base portion of the spool to temporarily fasten the spool to the thread stand plate.

The vent comprises a frame, a window or venting panel that is pivotally supported on one of its sides, means for biasing the venting panel to an open position and latch means for maintaining the panel in a closed position. The latch means may be either manually or electrically released or released upon detection of heat or smoke, and may be released either at the panel or remotely. Each wall vent is also preferably releasable to an open position from a story of the building therebelow.
