  • Patent number: 4616122
Abstract: A portable apparatus for generating vapor for a facial sauna includes a housing enclosing a vented liquid storage tank having an inlet for receiving liquid to be vaporized and an outlet. An electrically heated vapor generator is located in the housing and receives liquid from the tank outlet through an electrically operated diaphragm pump for producing vapor which is discharged from an vapor outlet in the housing. The housing includes an elastic wall portion immediately adjacent and confronting the diaphragm operating armature of the pump. The elastic housing portion is manually displaceable inwardly of the housing for displacement of the pump diaphragm by the armature to prime the pump. An adjustable control is provided for regulating the pumping rate of the pump. The vapor generator is provided with anti-sputter baffles to prevent liquid droplets from being discharged with the vapor.

  • Patent number: 4213471
Abstract: A portable, battery-operated manicuring machine is disclosed in which the batteries and the final output shaft are aligned substantially coaxially. The motor and actuating switch are positioned within the housing intermediate the battery chamber and the final drive unit with the motor being radially offset from the axis of alignment of the drive unit, batteries and housing and the switch being positioned diametrically opposite the motor. The drive between the motor and the final output shaft includes a gear reduction train comprising a pinion gear on the motor output shaft, a cluster gear having its larger-diameter gear in meshing relationship with the pinion gear and its smaller gear in meshing relationship with an internally-toothed gear and the output shaft. The motor and gear-reduction train are mounted on opposite sides of a bulkhead which is mounted transversely within the forward part of the machine housing.

  • Patent number: 4175573
Abstract: The application discloses an attachment for rotary manicuring units which provides a low-amplitude reciprocation of a cuticle-pushing member. A plurality of teeth or cam points are arranged about the axis of the unit in opposed rings which are biased away from each other by a resilient ring whose bias is overcome by a gentle pushing force of the tip of the pushing member against the cuticle to permit engagement of the opposing cam points and reciprocation of the pusher member. In the preferred form, the cam points are in the form of sharp teeth having a relatively gently sloping cam surface and a sharp drop for quick return of the opposed teeth into mutual engagement. The resilient ring preferably is in the form of a porous ring of synthetic material which is impregnated with a suitable lubricant for the cam points.
