Patent number: 11505354Abstract: A packaging/inspection system is provided for a nozzle pivot package including a collection of nozzles in various nozzle sizes. The packaging/inspection system includes a shelf assembly with a plurality of compartments, an operator load track, a verification section downstream of the operator load track, a marking section downstream of the verification section, and an operator unload track downstream of the marking section. Each compartment may store nozzles of a specific nozzle size. Features of the shelf assembly alert the operator as to which compartment should be accessed and how many nozzles from the compartment are required.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 2021Date of Patent: November 22, 2022Assignee: NELSON IRRIGATION COPORATIONInventors: Theodore J. Bren, Craig B. Nelson, Paul D. Davisson

Patent number: 7100842Abstract: A sprinkler device comprising a sprinkler body having a longitudinal center axis, an inlet at one end and an outlet nozzle at an opposite end; and a rotor plate supported axially spaced and laterally offset from the outlet nozzle; the rotor plate mounted for orbital motion about the longitudinal axis and for rotation about a second axis offset from the longitudinal center axis, the rotor plate having grooves formed therein arranged to cause the distribution plate to rotate about the second axis when a stream emitted from the nozzle impinges on the plate, which, in turn, causes the rotor plate to orbit about the longitudinal center axis.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2004Date of Patent: September 5, 2006Assignee: Nelson Irrigation CorporationInventors: Larry P. Meyer, George Sesser, Paul D. Davisson, Frederick J. Sweet, Craig B. Nelson

Patent number: 5671885Abstract: A nutating sprinkler includes a body portion having a nozzle at one end and a spray plate supported thereon at an opposite end downstream of the nozzle. The spray plate has a plurality of stream distributing grooves formed on one side thereof configured to cause the spray plate to rotate when struck by a stream emitted from the nozzle. The spray plate also includes a flexible connector coupling the spray plate to a free end of a first rigid shaft seated in a housing at the opposite end, such that the spray plate is caused to wobble about a common center of motion as it rotates.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1995Date of Patent: September 30, 1997Assignee: Nelson Irrigation CorporationInventor: Paul D. Patent number: 5409168Abstract: A modular sprinkler assembly includes a sprinkler body having an annular cap supporting ring and a nozzle for emitting a liquid stream to atmosphere. A cap assembly is removably secured to the cap supporting ring, the cap assembly including a stream distributor. The cap is formed with a top wall and an annular depending skirt, an interior surface of the skirt having at least one latch device formed thereon. The latch device includes a wedge-shaped surface portion and a land portion, and the cap supporting ring has at least one radially extending tab adapted to ride on the wedge-shaped surface portion and to seat on the land portion upon rotation of the cap relative to the sprinkler body. The cap assembly may support a pair of differently configured stream distributors facing in opposite directions, and in this cap construction, the cap is reversible, i.e., the cap can be inverted and reattached to the sprinkler body to take advantage of the additional stream distributor.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 1993Date of Patent: April 25, 1995Assignee: Nelson Irrigation CorporationInventors: Craig B. Nelson, Paul D. Davisson

Patent number: 5297737Abstract: A frost clip is provided for a rotary sprinkler of the type which includes a sprinkler body, a nozzle for emitting a stream and a rotatable distributor plate adapted to receive and redirect the stream. The frost clip is attachable to the sprinkler body so as to be intermittently engaged by the stream as the distributor plate rotates about its axis of rotation. The frost clip is formed with a channel facing radially towards and extending substantially parallel to an axis of rotation of the rotor plate. The channel is constructed and arranged to intermittently deflect the stream back toward the rotor plate and at least a portion of the sprinkler body as the stream rotates past the clip, to thereby inhibit ice buildup on the rotor plate and adjacent sprinkler body portions.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1993Date of Patent: March 29, 1994Assignee: Nelson Irrigation CorporationInventor: Paul D. Patent number: 5224653Abstract: A modular sprinkler or sprayhead assembly includes a sprinkler body including an inlet portion adapted for connection to a feed conduit, and an outlet portion for emitting water to atmosphere. A cap is removably attached to the sprinkler body, the cap mounting a distributor assembly (fixed or rotatable) adapted to receive and distribute water emitted from the outlet portion. The cap has a flexible and radially extending latching element releasably engaged within a detent provided on the sprinkler body for releasably holding the cap on the sprinkler body. The distributor assembly may include a brake housing provided with an annular groove, and the cap may then be provided with a hinged projection for releasable engagement with the annular groove. By this construction, the cap and associated distributor comprise a separable unit which is easily assembled and disassembled from the sprinkler body. In turn, the distributor/brake unit is easily assembled and disassembled from the cap.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1992Date of Patent: July 6, 1993Assignee: Nelson Irrigation CorporationInventors: Craig B. Nelson, Paul D. Davisson

Patent number: 4796811Abstract: A rotary sprinkler head comprising a sprinkler body having an outlet defined by a selected nozzle for directing water under pressure communicated therewith into an atmospheric condition in a primary stream having a generally vertically extending axis. A rotary distributor is mounted for rotational movement about a generally vertical rotational axis with respect to said sprinkler body in engaging relation with respect to the primary stream directed from said nozzle so as to be rotated thereby. A speed reducer is provided to slow the rotational speed imparted to the distributor.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 1988Date of Patent: January 10, 1989Assignee: Nelson Irrigation CorporationInventor: Paul D.
