  • Patent number: 7219560
Abstract: A method of correcting for overspin in a turbine meter is provided. The turbine meter has turbine rotors positioned in a pipe in which liquid passes therethrough. The turbine rotors rotate in response to movement of the liquid passing through the pipe and sensors mounted proximate thereto count each passage of a rotor by providing an electronic pulse to a microprocessor. The microprocessor calculates the frequency of the electronic pulses which is directly proportional to the total quantity of liquid passing therethrough. If the microprocessor detects a rapid decrease in the frequency of the electronic pulses from the one or more sensors, it begins storing the frequency data therein. The microprocessor determines whether the decrease is due to a total shut off of liquid flowing or to a slow down of said flow. If a slowdown, the stored frequencies are used to compute the total quantity flowing through said pipe. If a shut down, the stored frequencies are deleted and not used to calculate total frequency.

  • Patent number: 6935191
Abstract: A flow switch used on conjunction with a fuel flow meter in a fuel dispenser to determine when fuel flow rate signals form a fuel flow meter should be ignored in the calculation of flow rate and/or volume of fuel dispensed. An inferential fuel flow meter may be used as the fuel flow meter. The inferential fuel flow meter may be a turbine flow meter that comprises one or more turbine rotors that rotate in response to fuel flow flowing through the turbine flow meter. The turbine rotors may continue to generate pulses even when fuel is no longer flowing. A flow switch determines when fuel is actually flowing and fuel is not actually flowing. The flow switch is described as either a single poppet or dual poppet flow switch in examples described herein.

  • Patent number: 6692535
Abstract: A method and appartus for measuring volumetric flow through a duct without knowing the viscosity of the fluid is provided. A dual rotor turbine volumetric flow meter is operably connected to a duct having fluid flowing therethrough. The dual rotor turbine has a temperature gauge, a first rotor and a second rotor with at least one of said first rotor and said second rotor having a non-linear response to fluid flow. The dual rotor turbine volumetric flow meter is calibrated by deriving a Roshko/Strouhal number curve therefor. During measurement, a first rotor frequency and a second rotor frequency are determined. The second rotor frequency is divided by the first rotor frequency to derive a frequency ratio which is then used to calculate a combined Roshko number. A combined Strouhal number is derived by using the combined Roshko number in conjunction with the Roshko/Strouhal number curve. The volumetric flow rate is calculated using the combined Strouhal number.

  • Patent number: 5689071
Abstract: A turbine type flow meter incorporating an auxiliary turbine ahead of the main turbine, the auxiliary turbine rotating in the opposite direction from that of the main turbine and serving as a flow conditioner, thereby extending the effective range of the flow meter to lower rates of flow.

  • Patent number: 4320381
Abstract: For use in combination with "crash type" non-synchronous gear boxes, a gear ratio indicator which not only calculates actual ratio of transmission input shaft speed to output shaft speed, but also compares this determined ratio to the various available gear ratios within the transmission. The actual or determined ratio of input to output speed is then displayed in terms of the available gear ratios so that the operator is provided information as to the precise moment for engaging the transmission and also information as to which gear to engage.
