  • Patent number: 8004959
Abstract: A first orthogonal codeset, obtainable in various manners, is used in a first cell to provide orthogonal spreading codes for traffic signals originating within the first cell. A second orthogonal code set for use in a second cell is obtained that has at least a first code in common with the first orthogonal code set by selecting any code in the first codeset to be the first common code. The plural orthogonal codesets can be utilized in various ways and in various environments. For example, the plural orthogonal codesets can be used for operation of a user equipment unit in a code division multiple access (CDMA) network.

  • Publication number: 20070127412
Abstract: Transmitting non-polluting dummy pilot signals in a wireless communication network permits estimation of the downlink propagation channels between a number of joint transmitters and a lesser number of receivers. With fewer receivers than transmitters, loop back information from the receivers is not sufficient to determine the downlink propagation channels between the transmitters and receivers. For N transmitters and M receivers, (N?M) dummy pilot symbols are transmitted to facilitate downlink channel estimation. Each dummy pilot signal is transmitted to an imagined or dummy receiver that is virtually located such that its downlink channel coefficient vector is orthogonal to those of the real receivers. Transmit pre-filtering based on estimated propagation channels is applied to the information signals for the real receivers and to the dummy pilot signals. The extent to which the dummy pilot signals interfere at each receiver is an indication of mismatch between estimated and actual propagation channels.

  • Publication number: 20060264242
Abstract: An antenna arrangement, method, and cellular communications system for transmitting and receiving signals between a base station tower, ground-based mobile subscribers, and an aircraft. The antenna arrangement includes a vertically oriented array of antenna elements, and a feedline arrangement that feeds the antenna elements with progressively phase-retarded signals, thereby generating an elevated antenna beam directed upward toward the aircraft and away from the ground-based mobile subscribers. In one embodiment, the antenna arrangement also generates a horizontal antenna beam for communicating with the ground-based subscribers. The horizontal beam and the elevated beam are sufficiently separated in elevation to prevent mutual interference when using the same frequency spectrum.

  • Publication number: 20060140375
Abstract: An automated IVR apparatus for notifying entities of costumer-specific information. An automated IVR application that enables subscribers to check the status of their DSL line and to report problems in real time. A “Service Restoration Callback” application enables a service provider to automatically contact a customer via telephone when service is restored after an outage. The customer can configure parameters concerning the received callback. • Publication number: 20060110376
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods of treating a cancer in a subject comprising generating within one or more cancer cells of a subject an effective amount of MDA-7 and an effective amount of one or more free radicals. The present invention further relates to methods of inhibiting proliferation or promoting death in a cancer cell of a subject comprising generating within one or more cancer cells of a subject an effective amount of MDA-7 and an effective amount of one or more free radicals. Generation of an effective amount of MDA-7 can occur by administering to the cancer cell an effective amount of an mda-7 nucleic acid, MDA-7 protein, functional equivalents of either of these molecules, by upregulation of the endogenous mda-7 gene, or by stabilization of the mda-7 mRNA.

  • Publication number: 20060109974
Abstract: In a method and system for transferring an inbound call received by a first agent, input information describing agent authentication and call destination is received from the first agent. The first agent is directed to conference in the inbound call in response to receiving the input information. A first sequence of tone signals is generated in response to the conference. After placing the inbound call on hold, a ‘wait for digits’ signal identifying a carrier servicing the inbound call is detected. A carrier dependent transfer sequence is selected for transferring the inbound call from the first agent to a second agent preferably without the inbound call being hair pinned through the first agent.

  • Patent number: 7038733
Abstract: Television receivers receieve a television signal and downconvert the television signal to generate a complex baseband signal. The complex baseband signal is differeniated and then integrated to reduce a direct current (DC) offset in the complex baseband signal. The television receiever may include a periodic known information field. The known information field is correlated with the integrated signal to determine a residual offset therein that is associated with a constant used in integrating the differentiated complex baseband signal. The residual offset is substracted from this constant when integrating the differeniated complex baseband signal.
