  • Patent number: 5596428
Abstract: A color matching method is described for matching the appearance of an image on a second color imaging system to an image on a first color imaging system. The method is based on the calibration of both imaging systems, preferentially by analytical functions having specific continuity requirements, approximating measured points rather than interpolating them. Due to different gamuts of the two imaging systems, a gamut mapping must be performed. The mappings are preferentially linear for lightness and saturation, and preferentially keep the hue constant. For greyish colors, the gamut mapping is preferentially non-linear, to obtain maximum visual perception of differences in the image.
