  • Publication number: 20120266100
Abstract: According to one disclosed embodiment, an approach is provided in which a user action directed at a selected graphical user interface (GUI) control displayed on a display screen is received at a machine. The selected GUI control corresponds to a software application and the selected GUI control is used to launch the software application. The system detects that the user action is a billboard request. Billboard data corresponding to the software application is retrieved and displayed on the display screen. In addition, the displaying of the billboard data inhibits execution of the software application.

  • Publication number: 20120262489
Abstract: An approach is provided where a request is received to rotate graphical objects displayed on a display screen from a first orientation to a second orientation, the request received from a user operating the machine. The second orientation of the graphical objects is calculated based on a rotational reference that is included in the request. The graphical objects are then displayed on the display screen at the calculated second orientation, with the second orientation being visually rotated from the first orientation.

  • Patent number: 7353428
Abstract: A client computer is connected via a network to an anti-virus server and polls the server for indication that an anti-virus needs to be immediately downloaded from the anti-virus server. The client computer disengages from the network, and re-establishes a link with only the trusted anti-virus server. The anti-virus fix is installed, the client computer re-booted, and the client computer is then allowed to reconnect to the full network. If the client's primary operating system (OS) is infected, a secondary OS in the client computer performs the anti-virus download and execution. The disengagement from the network is performed by applying a filter in a network interface card (NIC) driver by the primary OS, the secondary OS, a service processor (SP), or by a virtual machine manager (VMM), depending on which is available at the client computer.
