  • Patent number: 5113730
Abstract: A bar stock guide arrangement for screw machines having a rotatably mounted fitting which has a horizontal opening for loosely passing the bar stock and guide rollers in the fitting at circumferentially spaced locations around the bar stock. The guide rollers are on roller supports which are selectively adjustable radially of the fitting to accommodate different bar stock diameters. Weights are slidably received in the fitting between the roller holders, and centrifugal force on the weights produces inward force on the roller holders to hold the guide rollers against the bar stock. Each fitting has a central hub slidably received, on and detachable from, a corresponding tube on a rigid cross plate which supports the fitting.

  • Patent number: 4566358
Abstract: A bar stock guide arrangement for screw machines having a rotatably mounted fitting which has a horizontal opening for loosely passing the bar stock and guide rollers in the fitting at circumferentially spaced locations around the bar stock. The guide rollers are on roller supports which are radially slidable in the fitting and have rack teeth on their opposite sides. Weights are slidable radially in the fitting between the successive roller supports, and these weights have rack teeth on their opposite sides. Pinion gears are removably mounted in the fitting to engage the rack teeth on the roller supports and the weights so that centrifugal force on each weight produces an inward force on the neighboring roller support. Springs bias the weights radially outward.

  • Patent number: 4030585
Abstract: In this apparatus rotatable, annular guide fittings receive the bar stock at support standards which are spaced apart in succession along the path of the bar stock at the inlet side of a screw machine. Each fitting contains spring-biased rollers which guide the bar stock between them and yieldably restrain it against vibrating transversely. The bar stock is unconfined except in the spaced-apart fittings. For a multiple screw machine, each support standard has a rotatively indexed cross plate carrying several such fittings, one for each bar stock.

  • Patent number: 4000797
Abstract: The present arrangement for guiding bar stock being fed to a screw machine has yieldably-mounted rollers which project into a rotatable guide tube to guide the rotatable bar stock between them. The yieldable, resilient mounting of these rollers substantially eliminates noise and absorbs the transverse forces acting on the bar stock. Preferably, several sets of such rollers are provided at different locations along the length of the guide tube.
