  • Publication number: 20250065428
Abstract: A manufacturing method is provided during which a workpiece is electrical discharge machined using an electrode to form an aperture in the workpiece. A first voltage is measured indicative of a gap voltage between the electrode and the workpiece using a first measurement device to provide a first measurement signal indicative of the first voltage. Movement of the electrode is controlled using the first measurement signal. A second voltage is measured indicative of the gap voltage using a second measurement device to provide a second measurement signal indicative of the second voltage. A determination is made whether the electrode has broken through the workpiece using the second measurement signal.

  • Publication number: 20240293892
Abstract: A manufacturing method is provided during which a substrate aperture is formed through a substrate of a preform component for a turbine engine using a first machining process. A coating system is applied onto the substrate to provide a coated substrate. A coating aperture is formed through the coating system using a second machining process that is different than the first machining process. The second machining process includes percussion laser drilling. At least the substrate aperture and the coating aperture collectively form a cooling aperture through the coated substrate.

  • Patent number: 11898465
Abstract: A manufacturing method is provided. During this method, a preform component is provided for a turbine engine. The preform component includes a substrate. A preform meter section and a preform diffuser section are formed in the substrate. An internal coating is applied to at least the preform meter section to provide a meter section of a cooling aperture. External coating material is applied over the substrate. The applying of the external coating material forms an external coating over the substrate. The applying of the external coating also builds up the external coating material within the preform diffuser section to form a diffuser section of the cooling aperture.
