Publication number: 20160160091Abstract: Disclosed is a tape including a substrate having an adhesive layer applied thereto and an edge coating. The substrate and the adhesive together provide at least one masking edge where the edge coating is applied. The edge coating includes a flocculating agent. The edge coating provides the tape with enhanced masking ability.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 12, 2016Publication date: June 9, 2016Applicant: Intertape Polymer CorporationInventors: John K. Tynan, JR., Mark A. Lewandowski, Deborah A. Chrzanowski, Paul E. Rhude

Patent number: 9273232Abstract: Disclosed is a tape that includes a substrate having an adhesive layer applied thereto, and an edge coating applied to a masking edge of the tape. The substrate and the adhesive, together, define a first and a second masking edge of the tape. The edge coating includes a flocculating agent that is a polyvalent metal salt or an ionic polymer. The edge coating improves the ability of the tape to provide a sharp mask line after a paint, a varnish, a paint stripper, or other coating composition is applied to a surface where the tape is adhered.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 2011Date of Patent: March 1, 2016Assignee: INTERTAPE POLYMER CORP.Inventors: John K. Tynan, Jr., Mark A. Lewandowski, Deborah Anne Chrzanowski, Paul E. Rhude

Publication number: 20150035204Abstract: Disclosed is a masking article such as a masking tape, roll of masking tape, masking sheet, etc. that has a substrate or backing with a primer layer on a first major surface thereof and a pressure-sensitive silicone adhesive layer on the primer layer such that the primer layer is positioned between the backing and the adhesive layer. The masking article is able to adhere to a semi-permanent release composition at greater than about 10 oz/in as measured with a 90° peel test to stainless steel with a 4.5 lb roll down. A method of masking a mold having a semi-permanent release applied thereto with the disclosed masking article is disclosed. The method includes the steps of providing a mold having the semi-permanent release agent applied thereto and applying a masking article to an area of the mold with the masking article at least partially adhered to the semi-permanent release agent.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 1, 2014Publication date: February 5, 2015Inventors: Cynthia Stoner, Paul E. Patent number: 8691381Abstract: Disclosed is a tape including a substrate having an adhesive layer applied thereto and an edge coating. The substrate and the adhesive together provide at least one masking edge where the edge coating is applied. The edge coating includes a lipophilic agent, a flocculating agent, or combinations thereof. The edge coating provides the tape with enhanced masking ability by preventing paints, varnishes, paint strippers, and other coating compositions from infiltrating the tape substrate or the interface between the tape and an adherend.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 2009Date of Patent: April 8, 2014Assignee: Intertape Polymer Corp.Inventors: John K. Tynan, Jr., Mark A. Lewandowski, Deborah Anne Chrzanowski, Paul E. Rhude
