  • Publication number: 20230234335
Abstract: A low cost, thick duct tape having a multi-layer adhesive system and methods for making the duct tape are disclosed. The duct tape includes a backing having a first major surface and an opposing second major surface, a reinforcing material applied to the second major surface of the backing, an inner adhesive layer applied to the reinforcing material opposite the backing, and an outermost adhesive layer applied to the composite adhesive layer. The inner adhesive layer includes a first adhesive and an extender dispersed in the first adhesive, and the outermost adhesive layer includes a second adhesive that may be the same or different than the first adhesive.

  • Publication number: 20160160091
Abstract: Disclosed is a tape including a substrate having an adhesive layer applied thereto and an edge coating. The substrate and the adhesive together provide at least one masking edge where the edge coating is applied. The edge coating includes a flocculating agent. The edge coating provides the tape with enhanced masking ability.

  • Patent number: 9273232
Abstract: Disclosed is a tape that includes a substrate having an adhesive layer applied thereto, and an edge coating applied to a masking edge of the tape. The substrate and the adhesive, together, define a first and a second masking edge of the tape. The edge coating includes a flocculating agent that is a polyvalent metal salt or an ionic polymer. The edge coating improves the ability of the tape to provide a sharp mask line after a paint, a varnish, a paint stripper, or other coating composition is applied to a surface where the tape is adhered.

  • Publication number: 20150035204
Abstract: Disclosed is a masking article such as a masking tape, roll of masking tape, masking sheet, etc. that has a substrate or backing with a primer layer on a first major surface thereof and a pressure-sensitive silicone adhesive layer on the primer layer such that the primer layer is positioned between the backing and the adhesive layer. The masking article is able to adhere to a semi-permanent release composition at greater than about 10 oz/in as measured with a 90° peel test to stainless steel with a 4.5 lb roll down. A method of masking a mold having a semi-permanent release applied thereto with the disclosed masking article is disclosed. The method includes the steps of providing a mold having the semi-permanent release agent applied thereto and applying a masking article to an area of the mold with the masking article at least partially adhered to the semi-permanent release agent.

  • Patent number: 8691381
Abstract: Disclosed is a tape including a substrate having an adhesive layer applied thereto and an edge coating. The substrate and the adhesive together provide at least one masking edge where the edge coating is applied. The edge coating includes a lipophilic agent, a flocculating agent, or combinations thereof. The edge coating provides the tape with enhanced masking ability by preventing paints, varnishes, paint strippers, and other coating compositions from infiltrating the tape substrate or the interface between the tape and an adherend.
