Abstract: A multicomponent fiber for nonwovens and methods for making and using same. The multicomponent fiber can include a first component comprising a first polypropylene having a MFR of at least 30 dg/min and a second polypropylene having a MFR of less than 20 dg/min. The multicomponent fiber can further include a second component comprising the first polypropylene and at least one propylene-based elastomer comprising propylene and about 10 wt % to about 30 wt % of one or more alpha-olefin derived units, based on a total weight of the elastomer, wherein the propylene-based elastomer has a MFR of at least 40 dg/min and a heat of fusion (Hi) of about 3 J/g to about 75 J/g, as determined by DSC.

Abstract: A method can include (a) extruding a bi-component fiber comprising: a first component comprising a first polypropylene homopolymer; and a second component comprising a blend that comprises a propylene-based elastomer and a second polypropylene homopolymer, wherein the blend has a melt flow rate that is at least 20% greater than or at least 20% less than a melt flow rate of the first polypropylene homopolymer; (b) cooling the bi-component fiber; and (c) thermally and/or mechanically activating the bi-component fiber to cause the bi-component fiber to curl.

The fiber or nonwoven can contain at least one primary polypropylene, at least one polyalphaolefin, and at least one propylene-based elastomer. The propylene-based elastomer can have a heat of fusion less than about 80 J/g. The propylene-based elastomer can also include greater than 50 wt % propylene and from about 3 to about 25 wt % units derived from one or more C2 or C4-C12 ?-olefins, based on a total weight of the propylene-based elastomer.

Abstract: Provided are blend compositions comprising an ethylene copolymer and a polyalphaolefin having soft stretch elastic characteristics. The polymer compositions comprise (a) an ethylene copolymer and (b) from 0.5 wt % to 60 wt % polyalphaolefin. The ethylene copolymer comprises greater than 50 mole % ethylene-derived units and has (i) a density of less than or equal to 0.89 g/cm3, (ii) a Tm of at least 100° C., (iii) a Melt index of less than or equal to 7 dg/min, and (iv) a ?Tm,g of at least 140° C. Abstract: A process is disclosed for flash spinning a nonwoven fibrous sheet from a polymeric solution containing about 12% to 33% by weight of filler particles. The filler is preferably insoluble in the polymer. The resulting plexifilamentary film-fibril sheet material has increased breathability with no decrease in liquid barrier.
