  • Patent number: 10929623
Abstract: Near and far imagers image close-in and far-out targets over relatively wider and relatively narrower imaging fields of view, respectively. An aiming assembly directs to a target a visible aiming light pattern having an aiming light spot and a pair of collinear aiming light lines. The aiming light spot is substantially centered between the aiming light lines. A controller determines a distance to the target based on a position of the aiming light spot in the imaging field of view of a default one of the imagers, selects at least one of the imagers based on the determined distance, and enables both the close-in and the far-out targets to be positioned substantially entirely within the respective imaging field of view of the selected imager.

    Assignee: Symbol Technologies, LLC
Inventors: Carl D. Wittenberg, Chinh Tan, Ronald A. Petrozzo, Paul F. Denimarck, Jr.

  • Patent number: 7967205
Abstract: A data reader system comprising an optical reader for reading symbol indicia and producing a symbol signal representative of the symbol indicia; a memory device for storing parameter data specific to the optical reader; and a processor for controlling: the optical reader; receiving the symbol signal and interpreting the symbol signal; the processor having memory for storing parameter data specific to the optical reader, wherein the processor is located remotely from the optical reader and memory device.

  • Patent number: 7044370
Abstract: A method and system for self-checkout of items from a retail or non-retail establishment is disclosed. The system verifies security by comparing a measured physical characteristic of an item with the stored security characteristic for that item and determining if the measured physical characteristic is within an operator-modifiable tolerance range. The operator-modifiable tolerance range is different for different of items in the store. Moreover, a stored security characteristic of an item can be updated automatically. In addition, the system includes a dynamic-weight scale that reports a measured weight before the scale settles.
