  • Patent number: 5898810
Abstract: An illumination waveguide that includes: a core having a cross-section in which the shortest dimension of the cross-section is at least one millimeter; and a cladding surrounding the core that includes a polymer having an optically smooth inner surface.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 4, 1997
Date of Patent: April 27, 1999
Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company
Inventors: Douglas A. Devens, Jr., David J. Lundin, Craig R. Hoff, Paul F. Tuckner
  • Patent number: 5855977
Abstract: A multi-layer article comprises a substantially non-fluorinated layer, and a fluorinated layer of fluoropolymer comprising interpolymerized monomeric units derived from one or more of hexafluoropropylene and tetrafluoroethylene monomers, one or more non-fluorinated olefinically unsaturated monomer, and substantially no vinylidene fluoride monomer. The multi-layer article further comprises an aliphatic di-, or polyamine which provides increased adhesion between the layers as compared to a multi-layer article not containing the aliphatic di-, or polyamine. The multi-layer article can be prepared by mixing the aliphatic di-, or polyamine into the substantially non-fluorinated polymeric material, or by applying the aliphatic di-, or polyamine to a surface of one or more of the substantially non-fluorinated polymeric material or the fluoropolymer, and thereafter preparing a multi-layer article.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 26, 1996
Date of Patent: January 5, 1999
Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company
Inventors: Tatsuo Fukushi, Keizo Yamanaka, Paul F. Tuckner
  • Patent number: 4956419
Abstract: This invention provides fluorine-containing polymers having a plurality of thioorgano groups. These polymers are prepared by reacting a fluoropolymer precursor with one or more, organic, thiolate compounds thereby modifying the fluoropolymer precursor by grafting onto its backbone the thioorgano groups. Said thioorgano groups may contain functional moieties that modify the cure properties, bulk properties or compatibility of the thioorgano fluoropolymer precursor. This invention also provides shaped or formed cured articles, coatings and solutions comprising the thioorgano fluoropolymers, and blends thereof with other compatible polymers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 20, 1989
Date of Patent: September 11, 1990
Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company
Inventors: Robert E. Kolb, Paul F. Tuckner, Richard A. Guenthner
