Patent number: 12244467Abstract: To be able to adequately provide desired services over a 5G mobile service network, the 5G communication infrastructures requires a much-improved flexibility in resource management. Network operators are foreseen to deploy network slicing, by isolating dedicated resources and providing customised logical instances of the physical infrastructure to each service. A critical operation in performing management and orchestration of network resources is the anticipatory provisioning of isolated capacity to each network slice. Accordingly, it is necessary to obtain an estimate of service level demands. However, the estimation of such service level demands is typically obtained via deep packet inspection, which is a resource intensive and time-consuming process. Therefore, it is typically not possible to provide updated accurate estimates at a frequency suitable for use in accurate prediction of a future per-service traffic consumption, without an undesirable level of computational and time resources being required.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 2021Date of Patent: March 4, 2025Assignee: THE UNIVERSITY COURT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF EDINBURGHInventors: Chaoyun Zhang, Paul Patras, Marco Fiore

Patent number: 9347217Abstract: Embodiments disclose an apparatus for enclosing and insulating an opening in a structure such as an air conditioning unit mounted in a sleeve. The apparatus includes one or more layers required depending on the distance which any equipment installed in the opening extends beyond the wall surface. An embodiment for a rectangular insulating cover apparatus includes corner pieces, horizontal wall pieces, and side wall pieces. Corner pieces are configured to allow the horizontal wall pieces and side wall pieces to be slid into the corner pieces. The depth of the insertion into the corner pieces can be varied depending on the desired dimensions for the insulating cover apparatus. Publication number: 20070052580Abstract: An improved system is provided for aiming a shotgun-based or other countermeasure system so as to be able to countermeasure incoming rockets or projectiles. In one embodiment a shotgun aimed and controlled by the subject system projects a pattern of pellets to intercept a rocket-propelled grenade or incoming projectile. The fire control system uses a CW two-tone monopulse radar to derive range and angle of arrival within 150 milliseconds, with range and angle of arrival measurements having approximately twice the accuracy of prior CW two-tone monopulse radars. The improvement derives from using all of the information in the returned radar beams and is the result of the recognition that one can use the Sum and Difference signals to assemble a two-by-two Rank One matrix that permits using singular value decomposition techniques to generate range and angle of arrival matrices in which all available information is used and in which noise is eliminated.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 1, 2004Publication date: March 8, 2007Inventor: Paul Fiore

Publication number: 20050212703Abstract: Techniques for determining the angles of arrival of multiple simultaneous cochannel sources using only a single RF receiver sampling and downconversion channel is disclosed. This is accomplished by sequentially forming several known mixtures of multiple antenna signals in the RF domain prior to downconversion and digitization. Angle of arrival information is then recovered through the application of higher order statistics and subspace fitting techniques. The same principles can be applied to other P-element receiver arrays (e.g., acoustical receiver array).Type: ApplicationFiled: July 1, 2003Publication date: September 29, 2005Inventors: Paul Fiore, Steven Kimball

Patent number: 5452676Abstract: A high speed planing hull is provided, which is generally of a deep Vee form and which is provided with multiple steps in the fore-and-aft direction in combination with variable dead rise from keel to chine in the steps. The arrangement is such that, when the hull achieves planing speeds, not only is the hull bottom ventilated at the fore-and-aft steps, but the variable dead rise configurations, which provide for elevation of the keel area in relation to the chine area, provide for increased support of the hull near the chines, and relatively less support near the keel. Reduced wetted surface, and therefore frictional drag, is realized, while at the same time providing for a safer and more comfortable ride by improving both longitudinal and lateral stability.Type: GrantFiled: July 5, 1994Date of Patent: September 26, 1995Assignee: Global Marine Performance, Inc.Inventor: Paul A.
