  • Patent number: 5420372
Abstract: An alpha-olefin oligomer consisting essentially of repeating units having the structural formula: ##STR1## wherein x represents an integer from 3 to 11, inclusive; andy represents the number of repeating units in the oligomer such that the weight average molecular weight is from about 5,000 to about 20,000;said oligomer having from about 70 to 100 percent head-to-tail alignment of the repeating units of the oligomer. Preferably the weight average molecular weight of the oligomer is from 5,000 to about 10,000; and said oligomer is further characterized as having a dispersity of less than about 5.5, and a Z average molecular weight of less than about 24,000.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 30, 1992
Date of Patent: May 30, 1995
    Assignee: Chevron Chemical Company
Inventors: David L. Beach, Paul G. Bercik, Neal E. Morganson
  • Patent number: 5315053
Abstract: A lubricating oil composition comprising a normally liquid alpha-olefin oligomer consisting essentially of repeating units having the structural formula: ##STR1## wherein x represents an integer from 3 to 11, inclusive; andy represents the number of repeating units in the oligomer such that the weight average molecular weight is from about 5,000 to about 20,000;said oligomer having from about 70 to 100 percent head-to-tail alignment of the repeating units of the oligomer. Preferably the weight average molecular weight of the oligomer is from 5,000 to about 10,000; and said oligomer is further characterized as having a dispersity of less than about 5.5, and a Z average molecular weight of less than about 24,000.

  • Patent number: 4429177
Abstract: An alpha-olefin is oligomerized in the presence of a three-component catalyst comprising a particulate solid adsorbent, boron trifluoride and elemental oxygen. The process also activates the catalyst. For example, 1-decene is oligomerized to a product predominating in the trimer and tetramer using boron trifluoride, elemental oxygen and silica as the solid adsorbent.

Date of Patent: January 31, 1984
Assignee: Gulf Research & Development Company

  • Patent number: 4153638
Abstract: C.sub.2 -C.sub.5 mono-olefins are polymerized in the presence of a metal-substituted synthetic mica montmorillonite catalyst to selectively form gasoline boiling range oligomer products containing from 5 to 12 carbon atoms and oligomer distillate products containing up to 24 carbon atoms and having a maximum distillation end point of about 750.degree. F. (399.degree. C.).
