  • Patent number: 5335525
Abstract: An adaptor 16 is formed with a pair of cylinders 22 and 24 which are in axial alignment, of different diameters and extend from opposite sides thereof. One of the cylinders 22 and 24 fits in complementary fashion into one of a pair holes 14 and 12, respectively, to preclude any movement in a radially lateral direction of adaptor 16 relative to the axis of the hole. The other one of cylinders 22 and 24 fits, respectively, into a groove 44 formed in a face 42 of a guard collar 18 or into a cylindrical opening 36 of the collar. The cylinders 22 and 24 are joined by integral links 26, 28 and 30 so that the precluding of radially lateral movement of the cylinder 22 or 24 within its hole 14 or 12, respectively, prevents radial movement of collar 18 relative to the axis of the hole.

  • Patent number: 5317889
Abstract: A door lockset 20 includes a front loaded cylinder lock 75 which is assembled with an insert 64 within a knob 62. Cylinder lock 75 includes a locking bar 104 which is biased toward a central opening 83 formed through a body 76 of the lock. A plug 80 is located within opening 83 and is rotatable therein. A removal key 108 is formed with a slot 240 which is alignable with a plug slot 109 when the key is inserted into a key slot 113 of the plug. Plug 80 is thereafter rotated within opening 83 to align locking bar 104 with plug slot 109 and key slot 240 whereby the bar moves into the slots under the biasing action of a spring 106. Cylinder lock 75 can then be removed from the front of insert 64 and knob 62. A reverse process is followed to load cylinder lock 75 into opening 238 and to retain the lock with insert 64.

  • Patent number: 5123683
Abstract: A single handleset 10 with an adjustable retracting mechanism 11 includes a handle 20 and thumbpiece 32 which operates a rack 48. A pinion 70 is in mesh engagement with rack 48 at all times. A spindle 84 is connectable to pinion 70 in either of two positions determined by the righthand or lefthand orientation of a door 18 to which assembly 10 is mounted. Spindle 84 is adjustable without decoupling pinion 70 from rack 48 to insure proper orientation of the spindle relative to the pinion for effective operation of a latchbolt assembly 140.A double handleset 210 with the adjustable latch retracting mechanism 11 includes a pair of handle units 212 and 234 and also provides the versatility of adjusting spindle 84 independently of pinions 70 to accommodate either a righthand or lefthand orientation.

  • Patent number: 5084940
Abstract: An entrance handleset 20 is assembled on a door 22 and includes a handle 24 which is connected at an upper end to an upper rose 26 and at a lower end to a lower rose 28. A thumbpiece 30 extends from upper rose 26 just above the upper end of handle 24 to facilitate operation of a latch (not shown) which is assembled with door 22. At the juncture of handle 24 and upper rose 26, the handle is formed with a spherial face 26 recess 62 to permit swivel or universal adjustment of the handle relative to the upper rose.

  • Patent number: 4338804
Abstract: A door latch construction has exterior and interior operators connected through a latch driving mechanism operable for extending a bolt from a door edge. The exterior operator includes a lock cylinder telescoped by a thickened, hardened metal guard collar with the guard collar longitudinally inwardly abutting a metal shield retaining the shield inwardly against an exterior face of the door. The shield also extends inwardly of the door interior at least partially annularly around a portion of the latch driving mechanism thereby deterring manipulation of the latch driving mechanism by penetration through the door exterior face. The lock cylinder longitudinally inwardly abuts the guard collar so that the guard collar retained between its lock cylinder abutment and its shield abutment is rotatable to deter exterior attack against the overall exterior operator.

  • Patent number: 4297862
Abstract: A door lock including a mounting structure secured to a door, a bolt movable into an extended position in which it projects from an edge of the door, a lock cylinder for operating the bolt, and a holder in which the cylinder is mounted. A retaining mechanism, accessible through a release aperture on the edge of the door when the door is open, normally secures the holder to the mounting structure but permits the holder to be released to remove the cylinder. The retaining mechanism can include a latch member that is engageable with the holder under the urging of a spring to prevent the holder from being removed from the mounting structure. Mutually engagable cam surfaces carried by the holder and the latch member cause movement of the latch member to permit installation of the holder. Alternatively, the latch member can be a screw, eliminating the need for a spring to urge it toward the holder.

  • Patent number: 4100774
Abstract: A lockset of the type having a bolt reciprocal from and to a door edge by an operating mechanism including a crank hub and locks at opposite door faces has tubular torque blades between the locks and crank hub for transmitting rotative motion from the locks to the crank hub and ultimately to the bolt for the bolt reciprocations. Both of the torque blades have tubular inner ends of D-shaped cross section with one extending axially a major part of a crank hub D-shaped cross section axial opening and telescoping the other within the crank hub. Outer enlarged tubular ends of the torque blades are telescoped by ends of lock plugs of the respective locks and have partially circumferentially extending slots formed therein receiving radial tongues of washer-like members positioned circumferentially over the lock plug ends. Thus, the torque blade inner ends are single position, rotative drive connected to the crank hub and outer ends thereof are lost motion drive connected to the locks.

  • Patent number: 4012929
Abstract: A bolt is reciprocally extended and retracted in a door by a latch driving mechanism operably connected to exterior and interior operator assemblies projecting from a mounting opening between faces of the door. A pair of inwardly dished reinforcing plates edge abut the door faces spanning the door opening and the exterior operator assembly is secured inwardly against its respective reinforcing plate by primary fastening screws engaged with a lock frame of the exterior operator assembly, through the latch driving mechanism and end secured in the opposite interior reinforcing plate.

  • Patent number: 3948066
Abstract: A door lock having two escutcheon plates clamped against the sides of a door, two mortise cylinders mounted in coaxial relation in the escutcheon plates and each having a rotatable key plug and an actuating arm on the inner end of the plug, a bolt slidable between extended and retracted positions, and a toggle joint bolt-operating mechanism actuated by the actuating arms on the key plugs. This mechanism includes a bolt link pivotally connected to the inner end of the bolt, and an actuating link between the ends of the key plugs having abutment means for coupling and uncoupling of the arms and the actuating link which is urged in toward the locked and unlocked positions by a toggle spring movable into oppositely over-center positions. The abutment means comprise two spaced tabs defining a slot into which the actuating arm is eccentrically extended and retracted during rotation of the key plug through full locking and unlocking revolutions.
