  • Patent number: 4111736
Abstract: Disclosed are three embodiments of a hand-held apparatus for printing and applying pressure sensitive labels. All the embodiments are disclosed as having a housing, a rigid, metal, frame plate mounted by the housing, a platen and a cooperating print head, a delaminator for delaminating printed labels from the web of supporting material on which the labels are carried, an applicator for applying the printed labels, a feed wheel having teeth for engaging and advancing the web, a manually operable actuator drivingly connected to the feed wheel and the print head, a brake, and an ink roll for inking the print head. The apparatus also includes a feed wheel assembly having a feed wheel driven by a pawl and ratchet mechanism. The pawl and ratchet mechanism is adjustably connected to the feed wheel and a rolling contact type one-way clutch prevents loss of tension in the web between the brake and the feed wheel.

  • Patent number: 4049357
Abstract: A first portion or section of a flexible wrist cord is connected to a second portion or section of the cord by a sliding coupling device including a pair of mating identical housing sections which are assembled to form a housing having an internal cavity. A hook-like clip portion projects from each housing section on one side of the cavity and snap fits into a corresponding aperture within the other housing section to form a positive attachment of the housing sections. The housing sections also cooperate to define openings for receiving the cord sections, and the cavity provides space for receiving opposite knotted end portions of the cord or a crimped fastener which connects opposite end portions of the cord. The cavity also provides for extending the cord sections directly through the housing in parallel spaced relation or for crossing the cord sections when it is desired to increase the sliding friction of the coupling device along the cord sections.

  • Patent number: 4044677
Abstract: There is disclosed a printing apparatus having a print head and an inking mechanism for inking the print head. The inking mechanism comprises an ink roller, an inker body or carrier for the ink roller and structure for movably mounting the inker body. The ink roller is rotatably mounted to the inker body by mounting means including a pair of mounting members. The inker body has a pair of undercut slots and the mounting members have respective flanges received in the slots. Each mounting member is shown to have a resilient member or finger engageable with a respective shoulder on the inker body to lock the mounting member to the inker body. The inking mechanism has means for preventing its disconnection from the printing apparatus while the inking mechanism is in cooperation with the print head, but the inking mechanism can be removed and replaced with a new inking mechanism having a new ink roller while the inking mechanism is out of cooperation with the print head.

  • Patent number: 3986449
Abstract: There are disclosed method and apparatus for selectively printing human readable characters and a machine readable code on record members in the form of tickets, tags or labels. A disclosed method of printing relates to selective printing using one or more printing bands and coupling driving means with each band to drive each printing band a predetermined distance to a position at which the type element corresponding to the selected indicium is moved to the printing zone. This method can be carried out using one type of print head with printing bands which are automatically, individually, and selectively moved or shifted to a printing zone to print the selected indicia. Another disclosed method is used to selectively position printing members of the bar-type to print bar codes.
