    Abstract: A hollow glass lamp base is molded with a sidewall having a tapered, truncated dimple in it. The inner end of the dimple is knocked out, after the base has been annealed, to provide an opening so that the electric cord can extend out through the sidewall of the glass base. The need for an attached metal base and a connecting center tube is obviated.
