  • Patent number: 8762382
Abstract: A content classification system, method and computer product is presented. In connection with the invention, a data structure is created by identifying a plurality of words and mapping each word to one or more categories. The data structure is indexed. An item of content is identified and classified based on the data structure. The classification includes identifying all one—or more—word combinations in the item of content; for each word of at least a pre-determined number of characters in length in each of the word combinations, identifying each of the categories to which it is mapped; and determining a weight for each of the words based on an inverse proportion to the number of categories to which it is mapped.

  • Patent number: 8326688
Abstract: A plurality of pages viewed by a communications network user (e.g., an Internet user) are classified as pertaining to one of a plurality of topics. A count of each of the pages viewed by the communications network user for each of the topics is tracked, as is a recency with which each of the pages viewed by the communications network user was viewed for each of the topics. The communications network user is characterized as belonging to one or more behavioral segments based on the count and the recency. Advertisements are served to the communications network user based on at least advertising targeting parameters and the characterization.

Abstract: A system, for determining characteristics of a beam wavefront and reshaping such wavefront, including: apparatus for sampling the wavefront curvature and generating outputs; apparatus for reshaping the wavefront; and apparatus for receiving the outputs, proportioning the outputs to match the inputs need to drive controls for the reshaping apparatus, and sending the proportioned outputs to the reshaping apparatus. The reshaping apparatus is, preferably, a deformable mirror. The sampling apparatus includes a distorted grating. The method includes: positioning the sampling apparatus in the bean path; positioning a reshaping apparatus in the beam path; sampling the curvature of the wavefront and generating outputs representative of the curvature thereof; sending the generated outputs to the proportioning apparatus; proportioning the outputs to match the inputs needed to drive the controls of the reshaping apparatus; and sending the proportioned outputs to the reshaping apparatus to change the shape thereof.

  • Patent number: 7817959
Abstract: A method for selectively storing information received from a broadcast signal is provided. The method includes the steps of: receiving and identifying a broadcast message, the message including a plurality of characters; comparing each character of the received message with a start of tag (SOT) identifier stored in a memory; if a character received in the received message is determined to match the SOT identifier stored in the memory then comparing each of the subsequent characters in the received message with an end of tag (EOT) identifier stored in the memory determining if the received message contains both SOT and EOT identifiers; and storing the message in a storage unit in dependence on the result of the determination.
