  • Patent number: 8562960
Abstract: The present invention relates to a cosmetic composition containing a unique polymer blend, which includes: (a) a first polymeric film-former having a first glass transition temperature ranging from about ?20° C. to about 0° C.; (b) a second polymeric film-former having a second glass transition temperature that is at least 50° C. higher than the first glass transition temperature; and (c) a third cross-linked polymeric film-former. The cosmetic composition of the present invention can be applied to human skin or keratinous fibers for forming a film thereon with exceptionally long wearability, reduced flaking and smudge properties, and good removability by warm water.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 21, 2011
Date of Patent: October 22, 2013
    Assignee: ELC Management, LLC
Inventors: Paul Henry Marotta, Katie Ann Frampton, Tatyana R. Tabakman, John R. Castro, Elizabeth Martin
  • Patent number: 8454944
Abstract: The present invention relates to a re-applicable mascara composition containing a unique combination of a chemically modified wax and a polymeric film former including a copolymer of vinylpyrrolidone and aminoacrylates. The mascara composition of the present invention can be readily re-applied to eyelashes hours after the initial application to increase the lash volume, without the discomfort and clumping commonly caused by attempts to re-apply mascara to already-coated eyelashes.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 17, 2009
Date of Patent: June 4, 2013
    Assignee: ELC Management, LLC
Inventors: Katie Ann Frampton, Paul Henry Marotta, John R. Castro, Arlene G. Ting-Jenulis
  • Patent number: 8449870
Abstract: The present invention relates to a gelled cosmetic emulsion comprising an oil phase, an aqueous phase and a gelling system which contains at least one non-siloxane based polyamide in a sufficient amount to gel the emulsion. The polyamide can have an tertiary amide, ester, acid, or amine terminal end group. The emulsion is stabilized with an alkylene oxide containing emulsion stabilizer. The polyamide resin is stabilized with a resin stabilizer containing an atom with a certain electronegativity. The emulsions of the present invention are substantially transparent and when colorants are added the color is especially bright and clear. The emulsions are used in lipstick and mascara products as well as other gel and stick products.

  • Publication number: 20080233065
Abstract: The present invention relates to a gelled cosmetic emulsion comprising an oil phase, an aqueous phase and a gelling system which contains a polyamide resin containing a linking hetero-atom with a certain electronegativity in a sufficient amount to gel the emulsion, and a resin stabilizer containing an atom with a certain electronegativity. The polyamide has a tertiary amide as the terminal end group. The emulsions of the present invention are substantially transparent and when colorants are added the color are especially bright and clear. In addition, the gelled emulsions are substantially non-sweating. The emulsions are used in lipstick and mascara products as well as other gel and stick products.
