  • Publication number: 20160010273
Abstract: A method for making a fibre electrically conductive comprises the steps of: (a) providing a fibre having a negative electric charge at the surface of the fibre, (b) applying to the fibre a substance (such as a polyelectrolyte) which provides a layer of said substance on the fibre and changes the electric charge at the surface of the fibre from negative to positive, wherein said substance is not chitosan, and (c) making the surface of the fibre electrically conductive with a metal, wherein the metal of step (c) is provided in the form of metal ions and wherein a reducing agent (for example) is employed to reduce the metal ions to elemental metal. Fabrics formed from conductive fibres are also provided.

  • Patent number: 7555049
Abstract: A client premises digital subscriber line (DSL) modem having multi-mode capability is disclosed. In initialization, the modem estimates whether channel conditions are such that digital processing of the received data according to a lower data rate DSL standard, such as ADSL2, may result in a higher effective data rate than receipt and processing according to a higher data rate DSL standard, such as ADSL2+. If so, the DSL modem configures itself, such as by configuring its filter characteristics and sampling frequency, to receive and process data according to the lower data rate DSL standard; the transmitting modem, for example at a central office or service area interface, may continue to operate according to the higher data rate standard (with its bit loading corresponding to a subset of subchannels). The receiving DSL modem processes the payload data according to the lower standard, while processing control messages according to the higher standard.

  • Publication number: 20080062898
Abstract: A system and method for providing full-duplex data communications between an electric power distribution station and a power consumer via the power distribution line providing electric power is provided. A first information transmitter, coupled to the power distribution circuit, provides first information signals concurrently with the power signal to the power consumer via the power distribution line. A first information receiver, coupled to a power consumer device powered by the electrical power signal, receives the first information signals via the electric power distribution line. A second information transmitter coupled to the power consumer device provides second information signals concurrently with the electrical power signal. A second information receiver, coupled to the power distribution circuit, receives the second information signals via the electric power distribution line.

  • Publication number: 20060235130
Abstract: Compositions, processes, and methods are provided relating to styrenic polymers, including high impact polystyrene (HIPS), also referred to as rubber-modified polystyrene. In one aspect, a process is provided for making high impact polystyrenes, comprising the steps of combining a monovinylarene component, a monovinylarene-conjugated diene block copolymer, and a conjugated diene polymer. In another aspect, the feed components form an emulsion having a continuous phase and a dispersed phase. The continuous phase comprises at least a portion of the monovinylarene component and at least a portion of the conjugated diene polymer. The dispersed phase is suspended within the continuous phase, and comprises globules having at least a portion of the monovinylarene-conjugated diene block copolymer, a remaining portion of the monovinylarene component, and a remaining portion of the conjugated diene polymer.

  • Patent number: 5449640
Abstract: A method of fabricating an electrical contact in a semiconductor device comprises providing on an underlying silicon substrate a reflowable interlevel dielectric material having a contact opening exposing a contact region of the silicon substrate. The silicon substrate and the interlevel dielectric material are heated by a rapid thermal anneal in an oxygen-containing atmosphere thereby to grow an oxide control layer in the contact region and to reflow the dielectric material. A layer of transition metal is deposited over the reflowed dielectric material and the control layer and at least part of the transition metal layer is converted into a metallurgic barrier.

  • Patent number: 4782518
Abstract: An apparatus for converting a distinctive ring to a selective ring includes a rectifier connected between a main telephone line and ancillary telephone lines to prevent AC ring current from passing to the ancillary lines. A relay is connected to each ancillary line with contacts connecting the ancillary line to the rectifier. Each relay has additional contacts to which the ancillary telephone lines may be selectively connected, the additional contacts being connected to the main telephone line, bypassing the rectifier. When a selected relay is energized, ring current bypasses the rectifier and will ring the telephone on that ancillary line. A cadence detecting circuit includes a "quiet" interval measuring circuit and an "active" interval measuring circuit, to measure the first "ring" and the first "quiet" interval between rings. The quiet interval circuit will energize one relay if the quiet interval is less than a predetermined length.
