  • Patent number: 7053154
Abstract: The present invention provides polyolefin compositions that exhibit both stiffness and toughness. Polyolefin compositions according to the invention include a polyolefin homopolymer resin such as polypropylene and an impact modifying fluid that includes a nonionic surfactant and optionally a diluent such as mineral oil. The nonionic surfactant can be an ethoxylated sorbitan fatty acid ester such as ethoxylated sorbitan trioleate. Unfilled impact modified polypropylene homopolymer formed in accordance with the invention preferably exhibits a Gardner impact strength of at least 100 in-lbs, a flexural modulus of at least 40 kpsi and a tensile modulus of at least 60 kpsi.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: May 30, 2006
    Assignee: Ferro Corporation
Inventors: Ann M. Panek, Anna C. Andrews, Haleh Ayrom-Keuchel, Paul J. DeFranco, Robert J. Opalko
  • Patent number: 7041742
Abstract: The present invention provides impact modified thermoplastic olefin (“TPO”) compositions that exhibit both stiffness and toughness. TPO compositions according to the invention include a polyolefin homopolymer resin such as polypropylene, from about 17% by weight to about 30% by weight of a rubbery copolymer comprising at least one alpha olefin, and from about 1.0% to about 8.0% by weight of a nonionic surfactant, which acts as an impact modifying fluid. The preferred nonionic surfactant for use in the invention is an ethoxylated sorbitan fatty acid ester such as ethoxylated sorbitan trioleate (“ESTO”).

  • Patent number: 5759472
Abstract: The present invention provides a new and improved liquid color system for use in rotational molding. The liquid color system includes from about 10% to about 75% by weight carrier, from about 0% to about 15% by weight water, from about 0.01% to about 10% by weight dispersant and from about 10% to about 80% by weight colorant. The carrier comprises a material selected from the group consisting of propylene glycol, ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, tri(ethylene glycol), glycerin and mixtures of such materials. The liquid color system displays an evaporation rate of from about 0.01 to about 0.36 pursuant to the test procedures of ASTM D3539-87. The invention also provides a method of using the liquid color system which includes the step of mixing the liquid color system with the polymeric resin powder using a distributive mixer prior to rotational molding.

  • Patent number: 4788798
Abstract: Lens grinding or polishing pads are provided, characterized by a bonding system which permits them to be quickly and easily contact-adhered to the surface of a lens finishing tool, but which pads at the same time display strong resistance to lateral displacement during use. These pads can also be readily and easily stripped from the finishing tool without deformation or damage to them.
