    Abstract: Disclosed embodiments provide techniques and apparatus for installing an elevator. A support frame is assembled at the top of an elevator passage. The permanent elevator motor is installed in the support frame. The permanent motor is then used to hoist materials as needed to build out the elevator system. Once built, the permanent motor that is already installed and has had hours of usage to verify its operation, is used for movement of the elevator car for the completed elevator system.
