  • Patent number: 5435879
Abstract: Normally tacky, pressure sensitive adhesive compositions comprise one or more polymers containing pendant functional groups attached to a polymer backbone and having the formula: ##STR1## in which R.sub.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 7, 1990
Date of Patent: July 25, 1995
    Assignee: Rohm and Haas Company
Inventors: Gaylen M. Knutson, Paul J. Steinwand, Joseph J. Wilczynski, Lonnie T. Spada
  • Patent number: 5314943
Abstract: A low viscosity, fast-curing binder for textile substrates is produced by admixing an aqueous emulsion copolymer latex with an aqueous solution copolymer formed by the copolymerization of an olefinically unsaturated polycarboxylic acid and an olefinically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid. Viscosities in the range of about 2 cps at 25% total solids to about 1000 cps at 35% total solids are realized by using solution copolymers containing about 40%-75% by weight of polycarboxylic acid.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 30, 1990
Date of Patent: May 24, 1994
  • Patent number: 5268419
Abstract: Non-formaldehyde emitting binders for nonwoven cellulosic materials comprise a solution copolymer of an olefinically unsaturated organic compound having at least one carboxylate group, which is reacted with a primary or secondary amide of an olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid. The product of said reaction is admixed with a non-formaldehyde containing latex carrier which has been formulated with a non-formaldehyde forming reactive monomer to produce binder compositions which reach substantially fully cured wet strength in 8 seconds or less.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 31, 1989
Date of Patent: December 7, 1993
    Assignee: Rohm and Haas Company
Inventors: Dennis P. Stack, Paul J. Steinwand
  • Patent number: 5104923
Abstract: A non-polymerizable polycarboxylate imparts greater wet strength to nonwovens bound by an emulsion polymer containing a polymerizable cross-linker.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 31, 1989
Date of Patent: April 14, 1992
Assignee: Union Oil Company of California
Inventors: Paul J. Steinwand, Dennis P. Stack
  • Patent number: 5039764
Abstract: An improved wet strength binder is prepared by a process in which interaction between an olefinic carboxylic acid monomer, such as itaconic acid, and a cross-linker, such as MAGME, is minimized.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 31, 1989
Date of Patent: August 13, 1991
Assignee: Union Oil Company of California
    Inventor: Paul J. Steinwand
