  • Publication number: 20080221500
Abstract: Various embodiments of MEMS flow modules that may be disposed in a flow path (296) of a shunt (290) are disclosed, where the shunt (290) may be used to control a flow out of an anterior chamber (284) of an eye (266). One such MEMS flow module (58) has a tuning element (78) and a lower plate (70). A plurality of springs or spring-like structures (82) interconnect the tuning element (78) with the lower plate (70) in a manner that allows the tuning element (78) to move either toward or away from the lower plate (70), depending upon the pressure being exerted on the tuning element (78) by a flow through a lower flow port (74) on the lower plate (70). The tuning element (78) is disposed over this lower flow port (74) to induce a flow through the MEMS flow module (58) along a non-linear (geometrically) flow path.

  • Patent number: 7424660
Abstract: A circuit is disclosed for testing memories using multiple built-in self test (BIST) controllers embedded in an integrated circuit (IC). The BIST controllers are brought to a synchronization point during the memory test by allowing for a synchronization state. An output signal from an output pin on the IC indicates the existence of a synchronization state to automated test equipment (ATE). After an ATE receives the output signal, it issues a resume signal through an IC input pin that causes the controllers to advance out of the synchronization state. The ATE controls the synchronization state length by delaying the resume signal. Synchronization states can be used in parametric test algorithms, such as for retention and IDDQ tests. Synchronization states can be incorporated into user-defined algorithms by software design tools that generate an HDL description of a BIST controller operable to apply the algorithm with the synchronization state.

  • Patent number: 7422011
Abstract: A heating appliance includes an outer enclosure including a transparent front panel, a combustion chamber enclosure, and a variable speed blower. The combustion chamber enclosure is positioned within the outer enclosure and defines a combustion chamber wherein radiant heat is generated. The combustion chamber enclosure also includes a transparent front panel. The blower is configured to generate an adjustable airflow between the outer enclosure front panel and the combustion chamber enclosure front panel and to exhaust the airflow to a remote location. The airflow absorbs at least some of the radiant heat and varying a speed of the blower controls an amount of radiant heat transferred from the combustion chamber to a living space in which the heating appliance is exposed.

  • Publication number: 20080214355
Abstract: A power transmission device includes an actuator having an electric motor driving a pump to supply pressurized fluid to a piston acting on a friction clutch to transfer torque between rotatable input and output members. In one instance, a valve between the pump outlet and the piston selectively traps pressurized fluid acting on the piston without continued energization of the electric motor. A gerotor may be formed from a material having a first coefficient of thermal expansion and a housing formed from a material having a second lower coefficient of thermal expansion to vary pump component clearances as the viscosity of the pumped fluid changes with changes in temperature. A method of controlling the power transmission device includes defining a correlation between pump speed, fluid temperature and fluid pressure, determining fluid temperature, determining pump speed, and rotating the pump to transfer a predetermined quantity of torque.

  • Patent number: 7421616
Abstract: A replicated state machine includes multiple state machine replicas. In response to a request from a client, the state machine replicas can execute a service for the request in parallel. Each of the state machine replicas is provided with a request manager instance. The request manager instance includes a distributed consensus means and a selection means. The distributed consensus means commits a stimulus sequence of requests to be processed by each of the state machine replicas. The selection means selects requests to be committed to the stimulus sequence. The selection is based on an estimated service time of the request from the client. The estimated service time of the request from the client is based on a history of service times from the client provided by a feedback from the state machine replicas. As such, requests from multiple clients are serviced fairly.

  • Patent number: 7419858
Abstract: A recessed-gate thin-film transistor (RG-TFT) with a self-aligned lightly doped drain (LDD) is provided, along with a corresponding fabrication method. The method deposits an insulator overlying a substrate and etches a trench in the insulator. The trench has a bottom and sidewalls. An active silicon (Si) layer is formed overlying the insulator and trench, with a gate oxide layer over the active Si layer. A recessed gate electrode is then formed in the trench. The TFT is doped and LDD regions are formed in the active Si layer overlying the trench sidewalls. The LDD regions have a length that extends from a top of the trench sidewall, to the trench bottom, with a doping density that decreases in response to the LDD length. Alternately stated, the LDD length is directly related to the depth of the trench.

  • Patent number: 7420240
Abstract: An exposed top end of a vertical oxide spacer is removed, and a nitride layer is deposited in an amount sufficient to replace the removed portion prior to exposing a memory device to a self align contact etch process. The nitride layer may be used to prevent a short circuit through the oxide spacer. The present invention also provides memory devices that have a gate stack, a vertical spacer adjacent to the gate stack, in which the vertical spacer has a lower portion comprising an oxide and an upper portion comprising a nitride, and a continuous nitride layer overlaying the vertical spacer and the gate stack. The present invention further provides methods of fabricating the above devices, and processor systems which include the devices.
