  • Patent number: 7747925
Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for error correction code (“ECC”) striping. A memory receives sets of data in an original order. The memory stores the sets of data row by row in rows and columns such that user data in each row follows the original order. Each set of data is stored in a different row. An ECC data generator is coupled to the memory. The ECC data generator generates ECC data for each set of data in each row. The ECC data generator appends the generated ECC data to an end of each corresponding row. A modulator device is also coupled to the memory. The modulator device extracts the combined sets of data and ECC data in a striped order comprising a column by column order. A column comprises data from each row.

  • Publication number: 20100017682
Abstract: A method is disclosed which decreases the amount of error correction code data required to detect and correct errors in digital data while still maintaining a specified ability to correct errors in large groups of contiguous data. The present invention accomplishes this by placing distance either in space or in time between bytes grouped mathematically for error correction code calculations. An error affecting contiguous bytes, like scratches or other defects in digital storage media, or certain types of interference in either wired or wireless digital communications, would affect many error correction code groups, but would only affect one byte from each group. The error can easily be corrected using only a one dimensional error correction code, removing the need for a two dimensional product error correction code and the additional data overhead that the column ECC data necessarily adds to the block.

  • Publication number: 20070253458
Abstract: An integrated, low profile, high power laser light emission device is disclosed. The integrated laser light emission device provides uniform heat dissipation, as well as uniform pumping of the laser gain medium without the need for a pumping cavity. The laser system includes a pump diode array that can be mounted directly to a laser gain medium without intervening correcting optics hardware. Heat generated by the laser light emission device is cooled by a single cooling system. In the laser device, a pump diode array is preferably a Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VCSEL) array. VCSEL arrays are mounted on the laser gain crystal by a metal cavity frame or metal stilts. The slightly elevated mounting of the VCSEL's enables increased cooling and maximizing the quantity of VCSEL's on the laser gain medium in order to achieve highly efficient and high power laser light output.

  • Patent number: 7060081
Abstract: A cutting blade (56) having a cutting edge (80) defined by an intersection of a first cutting edge surface (72) and a second cutting edge surface (66) is disclosed. The angle between the first cutting edge surface (72) and the second cutting edge surface (66) defines a blade angle (?). The blade (56) may be fabricated from a wafer (130) by an anisotropic etch. An upper surface (134) of the wafer (130) is defined by a first set of 3 Miller indices, where at least one individual Miller index of this first set has an absolute value greater than 3. A top surface (60) of the blade (56) is defined by part of the upper surface (134) of the wafer (130). The anisotropic etch proceeds until reaching a particular crystallographic plane to define the first cutting edge surface (72). Having the top surface (60) of the blade (56) defined by the noted set of 3 Miller indices increases the potential that a blade angle (?) of a desired magnitude may be realized.

  • Patent number: 7055975
Abstract: A microelectromechanical system is disclosed that constrains the direction of a force acting on a first load, where the force originates from the interaction of the first load and a second load. In particular, the direction of a force acting on the first load is caused to be substantially parallel with a motion of the first load. This force direction constraint is achieved by a force isolator microstructure that contains no rubbing or contacting surfaces. Various embodiments of structures/methods to achieve this force direction constraint using a force isolator microstructure are disclosed.
