  • Patent number: 8068800
Abstract: A method of tuning an antenna circuit includes: (a) receiving a signal on an antenna, (b) producing a received signal strength indication based on the received signal, (c) using the received signal strength indication to produce a control voltage, (d) using the control voltage to control a capacitance in an antenna matching circuit, (e) changing the control voltage to minimize a ratio of a change in the received signal strength indication to a change in the control voltage and (f) repeating steps (a), (b), (c), (d) and (e). An apparatus that implements the method is also provided.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 6891898
Abstract: The system for recovering symbol timing offset and carrier frequency error from an orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) signal includes a receiver circuit for receiving an OFDM modulated signal representing a series of OFDM symbols, and providing a received signal to an output thereof. A peak development circuit is included for developing a signal having a plurality of signal peaks representing symbol boundary positions for each received OFDM symbol, where each of the signal peaks is developed responsive to an amplitude and phase correspondence produced between the leading and trailing portions of each of the received OFDM symbols. The system includes a circuit for enhancing the signal peak detectability, which includes a circuit for additively superimposing and then filtering the signal peaks, to produce an enhanced signal peak having an improved signal-to-noise ratio.

  • Patent number: 6430227
Abstract: This invention provides a method of broadcasting including the steps of providing a broadcast signal in a central frequency band of an FM radio channel; providing a first plurality of sub-carriers in an upper sideband of the FM radio channel; providing a second plurality of sub-carriers in a lower sideband of the FM radio channel; modulating a first group of the first plurality of sub-carriers with a complementary punctured convolution coded encoded version of program material; modulating a first group of the second plurality of sub-carriers with the complementary punctured convolution coded version of the program material; and transmitting the broadcast signal, the first group of the first plurality of sub-carriers and the first group of the second plurality of sub-carriers. In an all-digital version of the invention, the central frequency band may include a plurality of sub-carriers transmitted at a lower power level than that of the sub-carriers in the upper and lower sidebands.
